All we know about the God tiers is that Vriska says you have to sleep on your quest bed to do them. Maybe that means your dream self needs to be alive, maybe it doesn't. I don't see Skaia John wearing gold pyjamas right now though.

It seemed pretty clear that his dream body was lying on a similar bed in the battlefield, what with the checkerboard pattern to the land and the structure his golden-pajama-laden self was laying on. It is this body that we see rise into the air all sparkly-glowy and change into "Skaia John", complete with removal of blood.

Yeah I think you probably need a Dreamself for God Tier.

Probably the incentive for keeping a dreamself/not dieing.

It could also be that you need to lose your initial body that you brought into the Medium in order to use the dream body to ascend these new ranks. I suppose if we learn more about the "God Tier" and who's advanced on it we could then pair that information with who we currently know is in a dream body and who is not.
