Definitely a bitch move on Vriska's part, but what if she did tell the truth up front? He might have just gone to look for them and get shanked by Jack a second time.

Not necessarily saying that was her motive for keeping it a secret, but it may have been for the best.

she tells him the whole story of what will happen if he goes to rescue his dad = he goes to try and save his dad anyways = forumers like vriska but john's dead so who cares

Also keep in mind that both of those would be doomed timelines.
