Honestly, AU stuff can be really cool and nothing about tribal themed Homestuck seems uncool, but Fanfiction is notorious for FORCING Homosexual relationships on Heterosexual characters, and forcing -sexuality onto a character that is clearly exstablished as being a -sexual is just dumb no matter the direction.

I get your point, but I'm p. sure that the only 'fetish' in play here is homosexuality, and when you categorize homosexuality as a fetish you might as well classify sexuality in its entirety as a fetish and we can go back to puritanism and have sex through boards with a hole in them and chastise ourselves for impure thoughts when we dare let it feel good.

And secondly while I get your point, I disagree with it. Nothing's being forced onto a character. An author's exploring a possible route the story could have taken. This particular style of fanfic explores a potential romantic relationship between two characters. Is it canon? No, of course not, in-canon one of these characters is heterosexual. Nobody's claiming otherwise. But Liz already made this point. Fanfiction alters things. It alters settings, it alters characters. You're not getting annoyed that homestuck is being "forced" into a tribal setting, are you? You clearly aren't. Whereas one would think that the tribal setting is a much more jarring change than one character's sexuality.

So what's wrong with John being a homosexual for the purposes of the story? As long as it's a good story. After all, nobody's forcing you to read it.

Yeah, Nonsie, I consider it forcing and in poor taste to re-write a character to fit what YOU think it should be. Outside of the natural evolution of the character within the story to a certain veiwpoint/personality change/lifestyle alteration when you remove that character and start toying with what they have been built into because you have a fetish for poor writing and TRUE PARTNERS or whatever it gets meh. You might as well write a new story with original characters at that point, because they aren't who they were anymore.


Set pieces are set pieces, I still think altering setting and theme crosses into the "just write your own stuff" category, but it isn't as big a sticking point with me as the characters.
