I'm actually sad in advance over the fact that Andrew's inevitable Vriska-John ship resolution is going to ruin all the respect and adoration I have for John and do immeasurable damage to his characterization. I'm just like, preparing for this dark cloud on the horizon, and I'm trying my hardest to brace for it, but I just know that it's going to punch me in the stomach, and I'm going to weep.

This is the inherent problem for someone whose favorite characters are Kanaya, John and Rose and whose least favorite character is Vriska: unless Rose decides to take lessons from the Book of Mormon at least one of my favorite characters is fucked.

(And now you know where all my irrational Vriska hate stems from: the intense fear that a character I dislike will steal the heart of a character I love.)

I am reasonably convinced that her participation in Homestuck is far from over.

Mind you, this is me obsessing over one very minor blemish in what has otherwise been a rather extraordinary product. You shouldn't interpret my Vriska hate too negatively because I'm still a rather huge fan and the recent updates in particular have been stellar.

(I know a few of you will still choose to believe I hate Homestuck anyway.)

I feel like that's who John is though. He's not the type to hold a huge grudge and go, "YOU DID THIS BAD THING YOU'RE BAD FOREVER!", and he'd just believe Vriska at face value if she was like, "I did this bad thing, but I'm different now and feel bad about it. :::"

It's not that I want John to be mad at Vriska, because that just isn't who he is, but I don't want his incredibly forgiving nature to translate into romantic interest for the first woman aggressive enough to demand it from him.

Like what you're insinuating is that the first girl who's like "John, I want you to love me" will be loved by John because gee whiz, he's just such a nice guy he wouldn't dare refuse anyone who asked. I want John to be his forgiving, lovable, adorkable self, but I don't want him to forget about standards, or to forget that forgiving Vriska for having been an abusive, belligerent, unlikable ass should not translate into him harboring romantic feelings for someone who was an abusive, belligerent, unlikable ass.

(If Dick Cheney turns around tomorrow and is a completely reformed liberal, and runs for President as a Democrat, and you actually somehow can even completely tell that he's 100% serious and actually earnestly has realized what a douchebag he was and wants to genuinely reform the American system and do amazing things for the poor and marginalized in American society, I still would not want you to vote for him, nor would I be upset if you refused to, I guess that is kind of what I am saying. And romance is an even bigger personal decision. You're choosing who you presumably want to spend the rest of your life with, after all. Or at least, someone you want to be extremely intimate with. That is not a decision even John should take lightly.)

Conversely, while I feel that this story has had several blemishes, I don't believe that Vriska is one of them. Perhaps she could have benefited from an earlier introduction and better buildup to her overall role in the story, but sometimes the on-the-fly writing style employed in the narrative results in unfortunate missteps like that.

Of course, I actually do believe that her role as an active major participant in the story is over. She'll still make appearances and, if the foreshadowing with Jake is any indication, at least some involvement and interraction with the characters via the dream bubbles, but there's been nothing to suggest that she's coming back from the dead and I think that's fitting.

Act 5 was the rise and fall of Vriska. That was basically the whole deal there, and she has nothing left to do as part of her personal story. The same goes for Aradia and it's why she's staying behind at the Green Sun, just as Gamzee is probably not going to survive the three year voyage to the new session. They are act 5 characters, and it's where their stories began and ended.

Meanwhile, nearly every player character introduced before act 5 is continuing on, with the only exception of Tavros, who was also the only pre-act 5 character to have no impact on the actual plot during that period.

I guess it's just strange that you're the first person who has a rational argument for not liking Vriska or even against Vriska<3John as a ship.

God I spend too much time around HSG.

Also, for what it's worth, I'm sure I'd feel the same way as Snake if I were to ever consider that Alpha!John/Vriska was a thing that had any possibility of happening, but since all signs have ever pointed to "ill-fated flirtation cut short by Vriska's inevitable death," I never bothered.

Admittingly, and by the same token, I'd be totally fine with everything that's happened so far between John and Vriska if I was actually similarly convinced that Vriska was going to stay dead and her influence in the storyline was largely over and there was no way her and John were going to become a couple. I am just very skeptical.

So I guess POS and I will both have to reserve judgment until Andrew finally finishes his story.
