Gamzee had Nepeta's blood all over his club, its obvious he killed her.

The author is responsible for giving readers enough of an idea of the inner thoughts and motivations of the characters' perspectives that their actions, while surprising, should not completely contradict our knowledge of their respective realities.

In Kanaya's reality, Eridan has done crazy shit, and worse, crazy shit that has personally affected her and her responsibilities regarding the future of their race. Gamzee and Vriska have not done crazy shit.

I mean, even assuming Kanaya witnessed Gamzee killing Nepeta firsthand, I still would presume she'd attack Eridan first, even though at least seeing that image beforehand would prime me for the possibility that she'd be aware that Gamzee was a villain and a tactical threat that merit attacking first.

From her the limited perspective of her personal knowledge, Gamzee's a cool clown who's just wearing Nepeta and Equius' clothes for a random reason

Aside from the claw mark running across his face that was clearly delivered by Nepeta, Nepeta's blood being on his clubs, him wearing the glasses Equius never took off, and the fact that, by that point, they were all aware of the threat he presented if he ever came out of his haze:

CCG: THE WORST CASE SCENARIO HAS HAPPENED.
CCG: THE BARD OF RAGE IS ON THE LOOSE.
CCG: YEAH, I KNOW WE ALL THOUGHT THAT TITLE WAS A JOKE, BUT IT TURNED OUT IT WASN'T.
CCG: HE'S COMPLETELY SNAPPED, AND FOR THOSE OF YOU FURTHER AHEAD ON THE TIMELINE, I DON'T HAVE TO TELL YOU HOW DANGEROUS HE IS.

Then yeah, I guess he would seem completely harmless to a complete fucking moron with no situational awareness to speak of.

2) Karkat said that the Bard of Rage is killing people in his memo/Tavros blood is all over the walls with Gamzee's calling card so she would know he's a killer one way or another

...Yeah, you're all doing a fine job reaching for purely hypothetical circumstances in which Kanaya would reasonably attack Gamzee first, but this still doesn't change the fact that it's an author's responsibility to communicate enough information to the readers so that we're not debating wacky hypotheticals.

I get that Andrew's awesome and all, but that doesn't exempt him from having to follow the same traditions in concocting good characters that any other author needs to follow. Andrew's weakness (among others) is that he often assumes his readers catches onto information that he never adequately displays or makes known, and then he relies on avenues like his formspring to "correct" his readers for "obvious errors in judgment" they've made when they're really just responding to complete voids in information.

Like I said, I don't think it's a contradiction. Yes, Eridan has showed himself to be unstable and capable of causing a lot of harm. But Kanaya's never been particularly vengeful, and quite pragmatic when it came down to it. And I don't think it's unreasonable to assume she knows what Gamzee's capable of. Like I said, it's possible, if not likely, that she's found other trolls' corpses. He's also been writing messages on the walls in troll blood, and signing them with a clown face. He's wearing trophies from his victims, and there's blood on his club. She is going to know that shit has been going down.

And once she knows this, I'd assume that she can deduce that he's become the Bard of Rage. Karkat deduced that just from chatting with the MOTHERFUCKER. And, like Karkat, she'd have realized that, hey. BLUH BLUH. HUGE THREAT.

To sum it up, she can deduce that he's the bard of rage from the given evidence. And from this, she can deduce that he is a massive threat. It makes sense that she'd attack him.
