Really? Like, while Hussie has actually refrained from really showing an opinion on Vriska on the formspring, he has openly said that Eridan is meant to be taken negatively.

My hopes have been destroyed, thanks a lot Snake.

edit: He was about to join Jack Noir (or try to). Jack Noir wasnt to kill them. If Eridan joins Jack, his goals would coincide with Jack's/ That would thus involve killing all the trolls. Sollux was engaged in pre-emptive self defense.

If he thought Kanaya was about to attack, he would have killed her immediately. The fact of the matter is that he decided to make her attack by destroying the matriorb. Destroying the matriorb was pretty much the final nail on the coffin as for any chance for redemption.

...Let's be clear, though:

Eridan had just told Sollux and Feferi that he was planning to work with Jack Noir.

...Which meant Eridan would tell Jack where the trolls were hiding.
...Which meant Eridan effectively was threatening to kill all the trolls but himself and Feferi if she joined him.

Remember at this point, none of the trolls present know that god-tier Aradia has stopped Jack Noir in his tracks. At this point, everyone is rationally assuming that Jack is searching for them and they may not have much time left.

...It would have been irresponsible for Sollux not to challenge Eridan to a fight immediately and at least restrain him, if not kill him.

...Eridan was by no means simply acting in self-defense.

The sheer fact that Andrew had to even clarify that Eridan was in fact intended to be a douche in the first place was arguably at least partially in response to the fact that several forumites weren't capable of getting that on their own.

...I witnessed it firsthand. It wasn't pretty. The (weak as hell) rationalization was basically that moirails were pretty big deals, and in severing her moirail relationship with Eridan, Feferi had like destroyed his sanity or some shit, leaving him with no sane partner to restrain himself from violence.

...While that argument can be made it carries the nasty undertone of assuming that Feferi has an obligation to remain in a relationship she has no interest in continuing, which sounds, well, paternalistic to say the least. How many women have felt "forced" to remain in relationships with dangerous men due to the possibility that they might react in violence against them the moment they break things off? Would any of us argue an obligation on their part to remain miserable just to prevent a man's meltdown?

And to Bard, not really because, he went up to talk to Fef, and then Sollux proceeded to flip the fuck out, and then he tried to 'stop him', leading into the duel where Eridan kicked his ass. Then Feferi got mad at him for just pretty much defending himself,

and in retaliation accidentally killed her (It would have been extremely hard for him to not kill her while retaliating with that wand :P)

You don't point a death-ray at someone, fire, and then claim it was an accident when they die.

and then Kanaya (from my perspective) was just kinda lookin at him, and apparently he though she was about to attack, so he destroyed the matriorb (not sure why......) and then her.

Ridiculous. Judging by the bold part even you can see this.

So only about 1/2 of it was cold blood, since sollux wasn't killed but he didn;t care for him either.

You guys may want to flip back a page and view my last post because i made an edit to it and the new page was started almost immediately after, so im not sure.

Edit may help bring the arguement to a close but who knows.

To the first quote, Yes, but when Sollux challenged him to a duel, What was Eridan supposed to do, let him just try his best (and in that most likely kill Eridan) with his psychic powers?

And to the second quote, he still liked Feferi, and it was obvious that after killing Feferi, (And Kanaya who was actually one of his relative 'friends'.) that he was left a little more than mentally unhinged.

When Eridan killed two people, he strutted out the room and went off to kill his other ex-girlfriend.

When Vriska killed Tavros she stopped for a moment to think about what she did and discussed her feelings with a friend.

It doesn't actually. It is, in fact, completely unrelated.

Let's turn this around on the actual culprit: Eridan had just announced an intent to go to Jack, give away the position of all remaining trolls, and doom those who remained alive. What was Sollux supposed to do, just sit back and let Eridan give his best go at interspecies diplomacy?

No, it's not. It's not obvious, and it's not apparant, because it didn't happen. We didn't see any remarkable change in his demeanor after he killed Fef or Kan. In fact, after he killed Kanaya, we did not see him at all till the three-way showdown between him, Vriska, and Gamzee (not counting past-Eridan while he was killing angels). Please explain where you're drawing this conclusion.
