Arguably the fact that they (patron trolls) are not being handled like Lando suggests that maybe they aren't supposed to be Lando.

I mean, are they (patron trolls) really side characters at this point? The story has put so much focus on them and introduced them so early that it doesn't feel like they're supposed to be regarded as side characters anymore. I mean, sure, the story starts off as being about four kids who play a game, but in reality it's turning out to be a multiuniversal story about players across a couple of sessions protecting existence against Jack Noir/Lord English/whatever. Even the special arbitrary story number, 413, got promoted to 1025 (= 413+612) ages ago. Everything is pretty much saying, "You see this small handful of trolls? The four or so out of twelve are main characters now."

You know how you mentioned making Hivebent an intermission? Maybe the fact that it isn't an intermission is indicative of how at least some of the characters in it are, in fact, characters who are on the level of needing their own proper act.

I don't really think John needs a huge amount of development slapped down his way. Like, growth sure, but he actually never struck me as someone who needed a great deal of development. I think that Characterization and Development been rather noticeable in the other kids though.

That's my point, though. They shouldn't be, and in doing so has, in my opinion, been to the detriment of the story overall.

Remember when trolls were introduced and everyone hated them because they were just a bunch of new characters that didn't matter and only way to differentiate was because of their typing quirks, font color and two-letter handles?

Let's take that then do a small intermission and then have the trolls still interact with the kids and shit is happening with them that concerns the kids but you're never going to find out more than small bits of information.

Or we get to see more of the trolls and it turns out they have some decent characterization and development.

Shit, it's either that or people'd be going "I want to see more of the trolls, they actually didn't suck as much as I initially thought!".
