But, that's just my perspective...

So there is a purpose to trolls. To unite the forum against a common enemy. In a way, I think that's kind of neat.

You know, I can't believe this thread has gone on for so long with no mention of the banning of Halerthorn (aka Smorgoth). I think that was probably one of the most infamous bannings, because the guy not only was an asshole, he fucking toyed with people's emotions. Faking one's death is just outright.... hell, I don't have a word to acurately describe it.

So much hate.

That seemed familure somehow. I might have read that thread not long after it happened.

Speaking of famous bannings here's a few that I remember:

That infamous troll feeding thing where like 6 normal users got temp bans for posting in the thread. I think one became perminate for ban dodgeing. Don't remember the exact facts though.

Then there was that time a well established "old guard" memeber got a temp ban for about a week. I think it was for a tiff in an RP thread or maybe that was just the tail end of a problem that had been growing. I don't remember the exact person but I know it caused quite a stir in the AIM circles for a few days after it happened and when it was lifted.

Out of steam we'll never run out of steam. Although this thread is probably on it's last leg anyway.

One particularily tragic banning was Jelehz aka LordTobias. He was a decent guy, maybe pushed it a few times, but he slowly crept towards the dark side. One day he was being an ass and I called him on it and he went so apeshit that you'd swear I invited the third reich over for a barbecue, a little rubbing of elbows and some casual crimes against all of humanity. His reaction was so over the top that mount everest was all like damn, you up there dog. Flyin.

Only in fucking wacky-language. That's what they speak over there.

There was the infamous Lord Thane, a friend whom is mostly forgotten apart from maybe a few members of the mod staff and probably BraveFencer Shinryuu. He decided to troll it up, and this was before retaliatory trolling was entirely disallowed so a few of the mods got in on the counteroffensive action. It continued for about 4 usernames give or take.

Always gotta remember TheDarkNight!, the gold medal winner for most banned usernames (yes, he does have more banned usernames than this recent guy). Each time he shows up we end up banning him, and his only saving grace is AOL. The nice thing is though, either way we win. Soon as he gets broadband, he's IP banned. Until then he's on AOL.

HAH!

And for all you other users on AOL: no sympathy. HAH! Get out while you can still feel.
