Mafia: NPF edition
The Rules
1) There will be 25-30 players in this game. The Game Organizer will assign each player’s role at random, and will PM the roles to the players. 2) Of the 25-30, there will be 5 Mafia members. One of the Mafia is the Mafia Leader, and will report to the GO. The Mafia can communicate with each other through outside methods (PM, Instant Messenger, Email, etc.). 3) Of the 25-30, there will be one Police Officer. The Police cannot use outside methods of communication, except when talking to the GO. 4) Of the 25-30 there will be one Bodyguard. The Bodyguard cannot use outside methods of communication, except when talking to the GO. The Cult: The cult starts off as one person (the Cult Leader). Each Night the Cult Leader PMs the GO with the name of one person, and that person is 'initiated' into the Cult. Cult members can talk with each other outside the game. The Cult wins when all members of the Town are Cult. Due to small errors, this extra power I had must be surpressed. Instead I have added the power for the Cult Leader to background check any of his members instead of drafting. The Vigilante: The Vigilante (vig) is a town-aligned Player. Each night the vig may PM/IM the name of one player, and that player is killed. The vig, like all townies, wins when all mafia are dead. Masons: Masons are a group of townies who can talk outside the game. Secret roles: I will initiate secret roles that only the user of this role knows of. THIS ROLE MAY NOT BE ROLE CLAIMED. There is not a specified number of secret roles, but the more people that join, the more possible roles there will be. YOU MAY NOT TELL YOUR SECRET ROLE TO A GROUP MEMBER! DON"T DO IT! THE ONLY TIME YOU USE YOUR ROLE IS WHEN YOU GET MY VERIFICATION FIRST, OR THE REQUIREMENTS ARE FUFILLED! Thank you. 5.) The rest of the town shall be monks/towns people. These players have no outside communication with other players about specifics of the game. (I don't care if you say in an IM "Hey, that mafia game is great." but no telling each other info.) ***HONESTY GOES A LONG WAY*** Also, once killed, a poster is not told who is mafia and has no special knowledge the rest of you don't. Outside communication with living players is forbidden. Feel free to converse with your fellow dead/non-playing mates about the game. --- The rounds will proceed as follows: 1. The 5 Mafia decide on one person to kill. If the members of the Mafia do not agree, then the Leader gets the final say. The Leader will PM/IM the GO to report the target ASAP. 1a. The Cult leader will PM/IM the GO with who (s)he wants to initiate. That player is then considered a member of the Cult and/or take the power of one member. 2. The GO will announce who was murdered. Those players roles will be revealed at that time. The GO will come up with a brief narration on what happened overnight. Sometimes there will be a clue or a red herring from the story. 3. The Police Officer may investigate one player. The Police Officer will PM/IM the GO with the name of the player to be investigated ASAP. The GO will respond to the investigation by informing the PO whether that player is Mafia or any other role. 4. The Bodyguard (a.k.a. Doctor) may choose to defend one player. The Bodyguard will PM/IM the GO with the screen name of that player ASAP. If the protected person is hit by the Mafia, the hit fails and the person continues in the game. The bodyguard may not protect him/herself. The GO will write a story to explain the failed hit. The story may (at his discretion) contain implications to some number of players using the same rules as the death post. 5. All of the players spend the remaining days discussing whom they think is in the Mafia. They can judge this based on who was killed last, how suspicious their opponents sound, or anything else they want to use as evidence. 6. Each player will vote on who is to be lynched. Votes for lynching are to be posted on the thread. To simplify collating the votes, each player will identify their vote with the words vote: username followed by the screen name of the person they vote for. Be sure to bold your vote (Example; Vote: Garud), or it will not count. Votes may be posted at any time after the deathpost goes up and will end after a certain amount of time. Revisions. Players will be allowed any number of revisions. The last post with a revision in before the voting deadline will be the one that counts. If you wish to revise your vote it should be identified first with an Unvote (EXample; Unvote: Garud), and then a new Vote: SomebodyElse. If you post your vote prior to the opening of voting for the round, it will not be counted. Revisions to those votes posted within the voting period will be counted. The GO will tally the votes, and announce the lynched person. The lynched person is then out of the game. The lynched person may respond to the lynching by saying something to everyone before death, but only has one post. The lynched person may afterwards haunt the thread but they may say nothing substantial to the game and should not spam. In the event of a tied lynch vote, the voting period shall be extended until the GO sees it fit to continue. Players who wish to amend their votes may do so during this period. Should a player PM their vote to the GO resulting in the tie being broken, then votes will stand as at the close of the voting window. At the close of the extended deadline, if the lynch vote is still a tie then there will be no lynching that week. 7. There will be a "deliberation" period for the mafia, PO, and BG to choose their next target, after which, the next round begins. Repeat until: -The Mafia are all dead, and all the Citizens are winners (yes, even the dead ones.). -The number of Mafia make up at least half of the remaining players, then the Mafia are the winners. -The entire town is part of the cult. Roleclaim: Roleclaims are what they sound like, telling everyone else what your role is. This is not to be confused with Copy and Pasting your PM, which will get you modkilled. Rolelclaiming is your word only, no GO verification. No Lynch Vote: If you feel that nobody is acting scummy enough or you simply do not want to lynch anyone, you may Vote: No Lynch. If the majority of people vote to not lynch, no one dies and the game is shifted towards Night. Woah, just saw this here.
Anyways, I don't think I'm going to be around long enough during the summer to actively participate, but I thought it would be pretty cool if instead of 'lynchings' or 'hits' people would be banned (since the setting is presumably NPF), and shiney or krylo or whoever could fake-ban people from the game. It's been far too long since there's been a rash of fake-bannings.

While I don't plan on participating, be sure to work out exactly how the cult will work with the other roles.
Also, make a rule before the game starts on how to handle the sequence of night effects. This applies specifically to cult recruiting and how it interactsion with BG and PO. The Wandering God |

Actually, this betting on who will join that club idea sounds like a good one.
I'll lay my bet on SpacePope, person 18, and person 24.

Actually, getting killed first Night by the mafia usually signifies fear, which I guess could be construed as respect if you attended some sort of Evil Movie Villain school.
I'm suprised there aren't "Member of the Killed on Night One-Club" sigs out there.

I believe GARUD took a bit of my games logistics. Here's a proposal for the cult, by the way.
Should the Cult Leader die, the players may choose to stay or leave the cult. Should a role be drafted into the cult, they may choose to tell the CL and the rest of the group their role or not. The cult IS a threat to the town through and through. As long as they have on member, they can at minimum tie the town at the very end through some dastardly playing. The Imposter's Twist I added in my game is a possiblity, but I don't suggest it since it was only balanced due to lack of CL and possibility of failure. If the cult drafts mafia, the mafiate should have FULL right to tell the cult of the rest of the mafia. This is the luck of the Cult acting here. Luck is vital to night roles, Cult moreso than any. This is just my suggestions for how the cult should work from now on, starting with this game.

Meh I was thinking of starting a game, where the Cult leader directed the actions of all he had inducted through use of pm (i.e. if he drafted the sk then he could would tell the sk who to hit). And to insure his control over the unit once per day he could poison (kill) a cult member who he was displeased with, without giving that player a death post.
Edit: Basically each cult inductee would be free to do what they will, but should they anger their leader through disobedience or any other mean, he could kill them. However the cult leader has no ability to repair the damage. Any cult member they killed would return to their original allignment (town/mafia/independent) so they could tell the town who the leader was, but the mafia, sk, or even the cult could still win, and the disobedient member would lose. The strength of the cult would lie in numbers (for block lynch votes) and inducting as many obedient roles as possible, (say you induct the SK only to have him kill you). *sigh*
I've decided to play this game. This is more a test than it is me WANTING to play, also, GARUD seems stressed for members, almost making that 25 mark. Should my predictions on what is to happen come true, I'll keep through with my announcement about leaving mafia. If not, then you may see me around more often. Also, I'll do everything in my power to NEVER repeat the last fiasco in Mafia: Basic. I shouldn't let emotions leak on to the internet and a recent realization proved that to me today.
