Argue About Star Wars Movies - The Favorite Past Time Of The Internets Since Forever
Which is better, the originals, or the prequels? I vote for the original trilogy because I like Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman and Christopher Lee. Then the threequels came along and all of a sudden it was like watching a middle school play.

Bah - Christopher Lee. Had it on my mind since I posted in the Versus thread.
Anyways, to add to my argument: Check out Yoda. ...He looks like a sock puppet! A Muppet at best, and that's insulting to Muppets! |

Oh man let's argue technical details about ships and stuff (ps let's not).
Despite being more recent and having very pretty effects, the prequels are ridden with horrid acting wooden line delivery, and slightly less entertaining pacing. I do like the overall negative spin, as the Empire is rising, but I just can't get behind the characters or the war. It's essentially three movies' worth of building up what I actually want to see (perhaps much more of the Clone Wars was what I was hoping for). And although I cringe at all the "good must win" riddled in the scripts of the original trilogy (oh holy fuck so many reasons why the Empire would have won), it's still got better acting and pacing.
I'd be curious, though, to talk to people who had never seen any of them as a child and sat down to watch all six, removing as much of the childhood bias as might be possible. I mean, when you're super young and you get to see the greatest spaceship ever made soar overhead, its wedge shape full of menace and power, as the first thing you see of this terrific galaxy, it leaves an impression.

Hmmmmm. Personally I miss the old puppets for the special effects. For some reason, I always thought (well done) puppets felt so much more realistic then just some CGed aliens. I'm not sure exactly why.

My cat, six years old, prefers the prequels so far. I prefer a mix of the two. Episode Two made me want to seppuku right there in the theatre. Episode One and Three I quite liked, and of the originals New Hope and Return of the Jedi were very enjoyable. Not a fan of Empire Strikes Back.
