Daily Show & Colbert Report
We talk about it in tidbits here and there, but there isn't a thread for it yet.. so here we go!
If you like them or don't, now we got a thread for it... Colbert is on his way to Vancouver right now for the Olympics, and Jon is staying back home reporting on the Democrats Summit and Snowmaggedon! The past, present and future of these 2 shows... have at it! |

I'm much more a fan of the Daily Show than it's spin-off. I rather enjoy Mr. Stewart's style and sense of humor.

Well, Jon runs the "sober" show. With more concise stories and he can actually tackle the real media head on. While Colbert is just an Awesome Power Trip to watch!
I mean, Jon can duke it out with most "Opinionators" out there and get out fine if not always on top... Colbert is now Sir Colbert of the Space Threadmill. |

I love both shows equally and for different reasons.
The Daily Show is great because I feel like I'm actually learning something while watching it - I don't watch news shows often because it feels like they're doing it more for the ratings than to inform. Daily Show gets ratings because it's hilarious, so it does feel a lot more honest... especially when they have their (frequent) segments where they mention a whole bunch of huge stories in a row, and then have a slideshow of how every other news station is talking about, say, Michael Jackson's death. EDIT: Hell, there's a thread EXACTLY about this in General. Most news stations have to rely on making people think they HAVE to watch the news in order to get viewers. Daily Show makes people WANT to watch it by being hilarious, and thus it seems to focus more on the actual issues and less on fear and mudslinging. The Jon Stewart interview on O'Reilly Factor almost personifies this. Colbert is satire-flavoured ice cream with sprinkles of real-world events and a liberal coating of charisma sauce. It is delicious. Last edited by Kerensky287; 02-12-2010 at 07:38 PM. |

I did a search for Brian Williams and got this very informative clip about a very important social issue going on in the world.

I still remember the time Jon shot down Crossfire. Epic moment in media history.
Also I did a search for America and I ended up with Colbert. |

I particularly like pairing that clip with Jon having a sober, intelligent discussion with Mike Huckabee about abortion. Something Crossfire could never hope to do.

Colbert's first two years were magical. Nobody outside of his viewership knew just what he was doing. Politicians got up to be interviewed only to discover he is one of the most epic trolls in the history of ever. It was a amazing time to be an American.
Then people found out about just what the hell he was doing. Fuck those people. While his show is still, very, very good, it's missing that trolling he used to be able to pull off. It'd be like if you saw Borat walking down the street. In reality you know that it's not some guy named Borat but an actor. Not to say that Colbert isn't worthwhile but it is to say that my personal exprience with it's different kind of quality puts in behind The Daily Show. |
