On the flip side, two RP ideas!
I'm still a little unsteady with the whole GMing thing, but I'm working on it. Of course, practice makes perfect, does it not? I've been playing and running too many D&D games, which suck, by the way. Anyway, I'll throw out some rather simplistic ideas for people to either choose... or what not, so here we go!
Cliche'd Mech RP: Well, besides the obvious title, I'm talking about walkers and space fighters, battle cruisers and airships, the works. A war between the planet Arlia and Geneva. Well back in the day, Geneva was a prisoner workstation, where they sent criminals to do hard labor. Go figure because of the name, right? Anyway, when Arlia was threatening to heavily overpopulate, they thought, "Geneva has enough resources to support life for thousands of years! All we need to do is get rid of the prisoners and everyone will feel safe about actually moving there!" Well, the plan worked, to say the least. The prisoners were moved to a second workstation on one of the planet's moons. So, they started to actually colonize it, using the old workstation as a spaceport to transport people to their new homes. Guess what? Some were none too happy about the conditions of the planet. Frequent storms that lasted for days, ice storms so deadly that just walking outside during one almost guaranteed you got beaned to death by heavy hail or impaled several times by large ice spears. Well, after the complaints were made, Arlia had sent some scientists over and created a sort of... shield to protect them from the storms. After that, it seemed all too peaceful. Well, they had left the colonists on their own for a while. With what scientists they needed so they could recreate and create new things there. It didn't seem too bad, as they had what they needed. Though they left someone there they shouldn't have. A respectable military leader who had his cruiser stationed just out of orbit of the planet. He fumed that Arlia's leaders would try to bleed Geneva like they did their home planet. Summarizing this all up, he used his power to create a 'military structure' for the planet. Then later, he declared the planet it's own, instead of being a colony of Arlia. He refused to send down anymore resources to the dying planet and now Arlia threatens to overpopulate again. So now, Arlia must make the decision now. Go to war and retake Geneva, by force if necessary. Not the greatest, I know, but I could make it into so much more with other people's help. Second Idea: Big scale murder investigation? Possibly supernatural stuff included with it. (Cop & Detective & CSI stuff) Okay, I've been working on a cop game for World of Darkness, but I've never been able to just... use it. So, I want to run it in this setting with just normal role playing. Now, my thoughts are of using the supernatural or not. For me, that could either add or take away from plot. Though, giving any of it away on here would completely ruin giving you guys a case in the first place. Yeah, no fun right? I guess... tell me what you think might be better to run. I've been working on the cop game for longer then the mech one, just so people know. |

What roles would we take in the Mech RP? Soldiers? Generals? Colonists?

Mech RP sounds like it could be fun. I'm in, maybe.

Wow, didn't think many people would be interested in mechs, just people like... well... AB.
Geminex: Soldiers and pilots, the norm. Soldiers would probably get things like anti-walker weapons and get to drive tanks/walkers of their own. I suppose that might answer a bulk of questions. Though... anymore? So I don't miss anything. |

Definitely gonna go with the mech idea. Just a few questions though;
Are the mechs gonna be giant gundam sized, or human-ish escaflowne sized? Or some sort of middle-path size? If we'll have access to walkers and tanks, will we also have access to flier mechs as well? Which side will we be fighting for? (from the looks of the initial description it sounds like we'd be Arlians, but I just want to make sure) Will there be space battles or will it primarily take place on Geneva? My personal suggestion would be for us to take part in the initial space assault on the planet (that is if that wasn't already your plan). What kinds of weapons will our mechs have at their disposal? And as a follow up will we be allowed creative liberty with weapon set-ups so long as it's within reason? As a double follow up, will there be various "sizes" of mechs? As in light mechs that are more nimble but have lighter weapons, and heavy mechs that are slower but pack the heavy artillery? (I guess this is also related to my second question) Umm.... I think that's all for now .

Well, if we really want to be cliche, we'll start out fighting for the Arlians and then we'll find out that they're really bad guys so we'll switch sides/meet up with some people from the other side and form our own Army that fights for Peace and Justice.

Oh and RMB, you mentioned Medium Mechs being capable of Melee combat. Will said melee combat consist of beam swords or standard edged weapons? Or possibly a mix of both, where beam swords are reserved for high-ranking officials? Also, when can we expect sign-ups?

Why not just have melee mechs have a bigass spike they stab right through the cockpit of anyone they get close to? Because I always thought that traditional sword type weapons were kind of weird on giant robots.
