My 360 is being a dirty whore
Got my 360 out of the closet today to play Resident Evil 5, and now we are having arguments. The video and sound keeps cutting out during the first cutscene. If it were that simple, I'd suspect the cords, but the credits and subtitles are still showing. Just not the video, and I can't hear a damn thing. This is odd.
Right now, it looks like there are two possibilities. 1. I need to clean the fucking dust outta my 360. There's a lot, so I'm hoping that's it. I don't think ANYWHERE in this town sells cans of air duster, but if you guys can think of any non-standard places I might want to check, I'd appreciate it. 2. When my sibling put the 360 in the closet she banged it up or something and I'm going to have to get it repaired. If anyone can think of any other possible causes, let me know. After I try the air duster solution, I'll probably end up calling tech support.

Have you tried with more than just one game?
Dust is the usual suspect in your case. No doubt. I would go for the optical unit, a little dust is all it takes for most units got get bitchy. I'm just assuming the disk surface is mint though... Also, even if you don't have air canister around, a Qtip can do a nice surface cleaning and it's usually enough. |

Disk surface is pretty great, and I even tried installing the game to the hard drive to see if that helped... It didn't, which makes me particularly worried. Anyways, I did manage to find a can of air duster, and as soon as it stops being frozen from use I will finish cleaning my 360 out. My 360 had a LOT of dust in it.

Opening up your 360 case tends to lead to more problems than it will solve. If you can even open the bloody thing without breaking it.
You probably know this, but DON'T spray the air duster when the can is upside down or even sideways, it can cause severe damage to electronic components. |
