Felidae or "What the hell you crazy Germans!?"
So I spent most of yesterday at work being unproductive while surfing around on that one site that will ruin your life. Along my travels I ended up on their "What do you mean it's not for kids?" page where I found out about a lot of rather....interesting animated features....but most importantly Felidae.
Felidae is a German work apparently based off a book series. It's about cats. Animated cats. It's also about gruesome murder, explicit cat sex, constant foul language, torture, and acid-trip nightmare sequences. There's a Youtube link.* Yes, it's on Youtube; mostly because most people just assume that if it is animated, it's safe for kids. Anyway I watched it all last night. It was.....it was....what the hell is wrong with you crazy Germans!? *Do not watch this at work. Do not watch this with your children. Do not watch this if you have a weak stomach, heart condition, are pregnant or nursing, or taking blood thinners or nitrate inhibitors as this may lead to an unsafe drop in blood pressure. Consult a doctor after use. |

So if I watched this in class would it effectively freak out those who are sitting behind me? Because now I'm tempted.

How would they feel about seeing a pregnant female cat's throat ripped out and then gutted with crushed unborn kittens spread across the lawn?

Holy shit I'd forgotten all about this. Book was pretty good actually, at least as far as I remember, but I was a bit disappointed when I read the second in the series and it was more or less exactly the same story with the setting and names changed. Back when this came out it was actually pretty high-profile, and pretty much any news article or TV feature on it stressed how despite appearances this was absolutely not for kids just as strongly as you do.
So how does it hold up these days? |

I was suitably impressed. The English dub has some voice acting problems and some of the lines just fall flat. Other than that though the artwork is still pretty awesome and the nightmare sequences were amazingly horrific.
Watching an animated Gregor Mendel play demonic puppet-master to thousands of rotting cat corpses was.....well it was freaky as hell. |

It's like a film noir murder mystery, except all the characters are cats.
That's... that's a thing I guess. |

What's funny is that it’s in the same art style as Aristocats. So if you were an unsuspecting parent you'd have no idea what your child was in store for until about the five minute mark when the two main characters start in with the explicit language and the talking of getting laid.
