Must...resist...puns: The "recommend me Wii games" thread
Well...this Christmas I've had to deal with some good news and some bad news. I'll start with the bad news, which is that I need a new television. The good news is that I need a new television becaaaause
Anyhoodles, my new Wii is bright red and came with New Super Mario Brothers Wii and Wii Sports and even though I can't play with it just yet I already love it so much. So, what would you intelligent, upstanding and doubtless astonishingly attractive NPF members recommend to flesh out my game collection? Bear in mind that, while I'm open to a lot of genres if the game sounds interesting enough, I'm probably going to get the most mileage out of role-playing games, platformers, and adventure games--stuff like that. (Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is already on my list of prospects.) Also, I don't have the connection for the Virtual Console, so I can't really do that yet. I look forward to seeing your suggestions!

I got Donkey Kong Country Returns today and that is a really good 2D platformer. Really feels like a modern sequel to the originals. The soundtrack in particular is amazing, at times it sounds like DKC at other times Metroid Prime.
Also when you say platformers are you also including 3D ones? Because Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are great. The Wii's RPG prospects are a little thin but the virtual console has a good selection of old stuff. It does have some RPGs of it's own though, Opoona and Fragile off the top of my head. Haven't played either of them though (I've heard NonCon say good things about Fragile I think though, so maybe wait for his input on it). If you like strategy RPGs there is Fire Emblem and if you're interested in a jaw droppingly beautiful brawler RPG hybrid there's Muramasa the Demon Blade. There's also Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World but it's terrible, I'd get the Gamecube prequel it is far far better. If you didn't have a Gamecube there's also Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (RPG), Metroid Prime 1 and 2 (shooter/adventure game hybrids with a focus on exploration and platforming over actually shooting, also 3's for the Wii but it's the weakest and most expensive so I'd only get it if you get one of the first two and enjoy them, or get the pakc with all three with updated controls), and Zelda: Wind Waker(Zelda). Also Pikmin 2 is amazing and has a Wii remake with improved controls I'd really recommend it.

Yeah, 3D platformers are cool too. I've been getting a lot of play out of my copy of Super Mario 64 DS, f'rexample, and more in that vein would be fine by me.

Then Super Mario Galaxy 1 at least is a must buy. I've only played 2 at a friends so I can't speak about it too much but 1 is probably the best in the genre (with the possible exception of two which I've only had about 30 minutes on but it seemed at least as good as 1). The camera is for once actually fully functional, the graphics are beatiful by any standard let alone the Wii's, the levels are fun, inventive and challenging with a good difficulty curve. And it's huge.
Super Mario Sunshine for the Wii isn't too good though, but I've seen it going for $2 and it's certainly worth that.

Actually, I think they're still selling that Metroid Prime Trilogy bundle?
It's all three games and the first two have been updated to use the Wiimote controls. It's kind of an FPS, but there's more focus on the exploration. Seconding Super Mario Galaxy. It's wonderful. If you didn't play it on the PS2, see if you can hunt down Okami.

Fragile is like if you combined Silent Hill with a jRPG, and then made everything in it revolve around communication between people and loneliness in a post-apocalyptic world. Very flawed, but there are good things that make up for it. Seeing as you liked Contact, at least I think that was you, you might tolerate the weak parts for the good parts. If you want a more detailed write-up of the good and bad, I did a review of it a while back.

Phantom Brave
Arc Rise Fantasia Monster Hunter Tri Klonoa (but it's a short one. Probably real cheap right now too) Bloombox (totaly worth it and probably real cheap right now too) Sonic Colors seems decent too Fire Emblem Path of Radiance (to be honest, it's hard, Ugly looking, probably cheap, but good!) You probably could get all these games on the cheap right now |

I took about 30 hours to go through in multiplayer on Brawl's storyline which has some platformer elements (but it's a fighter in the end). If you have a cousin/sibling, doing brawl as dedicated multiplayer story is one of the most-fun things I've ever done.
Beyond that, I only really play the lego games on the Wii- Lego Star Wars, the complete one, being my favourite. Twilight Princess is incredibly fun too. Rachel has a decent collection of horrible games like Animal Crossing and Dewey's adventure, I'd have to ask her which games are actually fun and have playability. Edit: From Girlfriend: "Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: Chocobo's Dungeon is the game for you. It's a jRPG with a looooooooong story and omg you're a chocobo, squeeeeeeeeeeeeee~"

Kirby's Epic Yarn is probably one of the most enjoyable Wii games I've played in ages. Wonderful graphics, the controls handle pretty well in my opinion, and the levels are pretty straightforward without being too easy-peasy. It's a good game to play when you need cheering up; I swear, me and my roomate were squeeing over some new tidbit every five minutes. Maybe less.
Also seconding the LEGO games, especially LEGO Batman. That's one of my favorites.
