King Steve needs YOU! Let's Play Nationstates
King Steve's Kickass Country is now a real, virtual place and it needs to be populated. Come on and found your own nation, or nations, and see if all that crappy ideology you espouse can actually make a coherent, viable state for people to live in.
Yeah that's pretty much what Nationstates is about. It's a country simulator. With its supposed lack of bias, it'll allow nations of any alignment out of 27 to prosper in their own unique way. (As long as your dream world don't stray too far from the liberal American template of the author.) So this isn't a Let's Play in the usual sense, just something for us to do together, or at least spend like two minutes a week doing in the general proximity of each other. It's almost like socializing. I dunno. They made me write this. Please try it out or maybe they'll beat me.

Isolated nation-states as opposed to world-wide harmony! I tar the creator with the stalinist brush!
Can we set up gulags! That is the most important part of any successful nation. |

You can make public nudity compulsory if you are so inclined.

They're only isolated states if you don't join the
And yeah, there's a lot of things you can do that we should probably mention: You can ban cars, freedom, guns and the private sector. You can build space stations and mutant super soilders. You can pretend to be an absolute democracy while you personally make every policy decision for your country. You can write your own issues for the nations of the world to decide on, if you're any good. You can become the natural enemy of cheese.

By isolated I mean actualyl having countries and not everybody being the same- that's the big crime Stalin was accused of (along with all the other ones)- of abadoning the world revolution and dooming the future of communism in the process. Can I set up a world state? Also can I make abortion mandatory? I going to push for a short, yet massive productivity boost of a dying race and use the proceeds to have a bitching party when I've eliminated everyone's commitments and responsbilities. People won't be able to leave due to the party police on the borders. Last edited by Professor Smarmiarty; 03-05-2011 at 02:38 PM. |

There's often options involving execution, though they tend to make you rank as a psychotic dictator. But hey, you know what's best for the little people, right?
And I guess once you have a bigger population than this entire planet, who's to say you can't achieve a more harmonious state than currently exists? But until then you have to live with the notion that the game is based on this world.

Oh right, some gameplay tips! You must not try to join the World Assembly with more than one nation. They notice that. You can set your settings to receive two issues a day to pound out policy changes like a crazy loon, instead of the default one. You can let five issues pile up, but then you won't get any new ones until you start resolving them. You can post in the game forums, but then you'll encounter infinite amounts of bone-headed extremists. Seriously the other day I saw a gigantic essay about how Objectivism would save the environment.
