Rockem Sockem Robots: Coming to a Theater Near You!
They're calling it "Real Steel," but we know what this is really about. I caught this trainer on some rental DVD that my girlfriend brought over. I'm rather looking forward to some mindless robot on robot boxing. It seems you can in fact make anything into a movie if you try the bare minimum.

...Okay so we're not the only ones who thought that when we saw the trailer? So happy.

This trailer seems to provide a bit more backstory.
EDIT: I take that back, this trailer is longer and better.

I was all excited for this when it looked like a feature length RESER tournament/that one episode of Futurama with the robot wrestling federation, but the longer trailer immediately spoiled my enthusiasm with all the focus on the kid and rebuilding family or whatever not-Robot Fighting they're going to jam this movie with.

I don't know, I think the robot-boxing scenes (back alley and otherwise) will carry things a bit. From the previews though I'm going to bet that the father's money troubles come back to bit him once things get rolling and he has to choose between throwing a fight and betray the trust and love of his kid and semi-sentient robot thingy or muscle through it and win the prize money while losing sight of the family bonding and devolving into the robotic bloodsport.

Why do I have this sneaking suspicion I just saw the entire movie in Tev's trailer?

Also, I think we've just come up with the tagline for the poster. "This is a mash-up of 'The Champ' and 'Transformers.' If that statement sent a fearful chill down your spine, congratulations. It means you are human."

More like, "Doctor, you are correct, this child has fingernails. You don't need to keep telling him they need removal."

At least a joke about Stallone's "robotic" acting.
As someone who visits a few message boards, I am getting a bit tired of seeing the same staid old Rock'em Sock'em Robots joke for thread titles about this film. In fact I believe it has already been done here a few times in old threads from back when this first was announced. At least attempt a "Rocky Roboa" pun in the opening post or something! (or something better than that because damn, Rocky Roboa is a pretty weak pun, I'm pretty ashamed of myself right now).
By the way, there actually is a separate Rock'em Sock'em Robots movie in the works from Mattel. FOR SOME REASON
