I cant get rid of yahoo toolbar

No clue how it happened but I got a yahoo toolbar, and I hate toolbars. I went into add/remove but its not in there, I cant find it under start menu either.

Right then. Let's eliminate the simple solutions first.

• look for a pencil icon on the toolbar. click it and there should be an option somewhere in it to uninstall
• if that no go can try purposefully 'reinstalling' the toolbar to force the registry table to acknowledge its presence an propagate an entry in said table for proper removal means.
• if above solution isnt desired try running malware detection programs like malwarebytes, gmer, kaspersky rescue disk (note:rescuedisk takes a fuckass long time, so be prepared to wait if you use it)
• give ccleaner a shot.
• refer to yahoo's guides
• and the IT junky's best friend: Google. 'If you have a problem, hundreds of others have as well.'

oh right I forgot to include my OS. its windows XP.

I have tried running various malware programs, but unsuprisingly none view it as a threat. Mostly I just did it in case it was something being disguised as yahoo. I mean if something is suddenly on my system with no way to remove it I think virus.

Just to toss this out is yahoo just fully integrated into any major programs now like mozilla. Normally they ask if you want a toolbar installed but maybe its not optional anymore

I did but anti-malware systems didn't work, couldn't find anything under options (plus its very invasive its even in my right-click menu), and honestly I'm afraid to try purposefully installing it that I might end up with two that I cant get rid of.

Didn't do a search for it though, I'll try but never had much luck with it.

[edit2] ok think that did it, it was an add on imbedded in firefox, so I had to dig inside there to get rid of it.

Glad it is gone, but the devil is in the details here. Would've solved this situation much faster if you were to specify if it is one embedded into the OS or browser. My initial post would've contained directions on how to remove it from a browser environment....then I re-read your post and tailored it to OS environment removal. Oh whales.

And just sayins here, but might want to consider upgrading from XP to 7 or somethin. Given that XP is no longer being supported it grows exponentially as a target over time. Though it was benign this time it serves as a good example why to migrate away from unsupported operating systems.

sadly I didn't know, but since it came up when I right clicked I figured OS.

cost is what prevented me, I didn't want to blow an extra 100 bucks to have it installed. But I do plan to next year
