Celes, it has to be her.
Te best character from the best game. She was strong without being masculinized, emotional and tragic without being whiny, and she was a real heroine, even though she had doubts, like any real people. She was the character that best conveyed the dualistic theme of FF6: love and hate, hope and tragedy, epic and personal.

Let me try to think of some "D" characters (ponders). I can think of Dracula (Castlevania), Drachma (Skies of Arcadia), Damian (Snowboard Kids), Dragonute (Shining Soul 2), and Mr. Domino (don't remember the game). I know there are better ones, these are just off the top of my head. If anyone can make me feel like an idiot for not knowing a character's name, I'll vote for that one.
