La Pucelle WHAT
Tactics.
well I have a little story for you. in La Pucelle Tactics they have a rather unique naming system. creatures of each "enemy type" are assigned a word. for example, creatures of the Mr. Moo type (this includes Mr. Moo, a hippo-like creature, and all later palette swaps of his sprite) use the word "Hippo." what the game will do is randomly generate a prefix or suffix to that word, and that'll be the creature's name. sometimes you'll get cool things like "Prof. Hippo", or "Hippo.org", and but most often you get bizarre or just stupid things, like "Hippo Fungus", or "Hippo Or Not". anyhoo, the creatures of the Tiny Bat type use the word "Bit", and one of the Tiny Bats I encountered was called "Bit Theater". hehe. I... I thought that was neato. anyhow, I bought La Pucelle Tactics because they knocked the price down 30 bucks, and I thought, hey, why not. It's loads of fun. although I will admit I am biased, because I love the Strategy RPG genre and everything associated with it. has anyone played this wonderful game? what about Disgaea? they were made by the same people (Nippon-Ichi). alternatively, what are your thoughts on the Strategy RPG genre in general? (I foresee half the replies to this topic being "I loved FF Tactics"...sigh)

I love disgaea. For a period of time it was psychotic how much I played it. Have't played La Pucelle yet but I soon will...

I love La Pucelle Tactics. Just not enough to mindlessly level enough to reach level 100+

Oh hi! :D

Disgaea is so awesome! I love how you can get all of the different endings. Also, the battle system is very different from any other Strategy RPG's I have ever played. It has a lot more challenge than just walking up to your enemy and whacking them with a sword. Like for instance, if you want to reach and enemy but can't walk that far you can throw said character. It keeps you thinking of a new way to defeat your enemy.
And if you are really obssessed (or have a lot of time) You can even level up your characters to insane levels. A very well thought out and fun to play game. Also, who cannot love the Prinnies? |

YOU'VE EATEN POO, HAVE YOU?!

I myself have played Disgaea and Phantom Brave, but have yet to play La Pucelle. I played Disgaea over the summer, and I didn't stop until I killed Baal at around level 15,000, I think. Oh, and BMG, although Prinnies are hella-cool, I have to say I like the Putties in Phantom Brave better. If you guys haven't played PB yet, you should. The levelling isn't as insane, and there's no New Game Plus-ish feature, but it's still pretty awesome.

I have played La Pucelle through the end of the story, since leveling is wicked dull and apparently necessary for those annoying after-the-end sidequests, one of which connects to Disgaea apparently. My rating: 8/10 - pretty good, but the game system isn't quite deep enough to hold one's interest.
Despite my avatar, I haven't actually played all that much of Disgaea, due to my somewhat-idiotic insertion of Xenogears into my games-to-play queue before it. I like being able to skip cutscenes, and I really like throwing people around, although I wish there were dark portals so you could really take advantage of throwing. And prinnies are awesome. DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!! (The beginning of Xenogears was pretty good, but by the time I figured out what was really going on, I had pretty much stopped caring, and the gameplay wasn't all that interesting anymore. 6/10)

Bah!
Xenogears is without a doubt one of the alltime greatest console RPG's. Though not without it's flaws, the story is unmatched IMO... But that's for another topic. Of the Nippon-Ichi Three as I like to refer them, I've played LPT the most, which isn't saying much. I'm somewhere in chapter 3, and I've enjoyed it quite a bit. The story hasn't really been all that engaging, but it's probably the most fun I've had with a TRPG thus far. I've done the first few training missions in Disgaea, and that seemed quite fun as well. I have Phantom Brave, but it's still sealed... too many friggin' games! Now that I'm essentially laid off, I'll actually have time to play them all though. Just gotta replace my PS2 to avoid having my current system damage my games further... blargh. |
