Magical Girl RP Sign-up!
With the results of the interest thread being unaminous, magical girl RP is go now!
For ease of reference and political correctness, magical girls and boys will be henceforth to as mages. The setting is modern day, with a quite enigmatic sudden flurry of awakening mages. The fact that there's guides around to help them grow into their power, despite an apparent lack of experienced mages is also enigmatic. In fact, it is all quite mysterious indeed! To help give some consistency in character design, here are my collected ramblings on how stuff works: Magic The two disciplines take different approaches to magic. Oh yes, there is a significance to their names. I'm considering a journey to a sort of magical world later. Verda-type magic is internalised, focused through the body. At the basic level, spells are derived using the caster as a template. Because it is intrinsically tied to life, it is highly effective at healing, buffing, cursing and granting the semblance of life. Summons and polymorphing tend to fall almost exclusively within Verda-type magic. Autekka-type magic is externalised, focused outside the body. It constructs spells, building them up from basic concepts. Because of this, it can more easily create devices capable of producing such effects and manipulate forces and objects around the caster. They also have an easier time combining their power. An Autekka-type caster tends to have a lot of raw strength in their magical defences and attacks. Barrier Jackets The barrier jacket is the last line of defense a mage possesses and also boost a mage's abilities. They are magically summoned and possess an iconic appearance unique to the person whose jacket it is. In other words, its the costume. Auttekka-type Barrier Jackets are slightly superior to Verda-type, as they tend to incorporate lower-end magitech devices into them. However, Verda mages tend to have slightly more raw physical power, even without a jacket, due to their innate magic. Some mages have multiple configurations intended to trade off strengths and weaknesses for different situations (like less protection for more speed), particularly the Autekka mages. You might be dependant on on a trinket or certain conditions to transform. Mages generally get weened off these crutches as they become more experienced. You don't have to have a Barrier Jacket if you don't want to. Familiars That small animal that gives you advice! They're intended to act as guides and tutors for the Verda-type mages since the creation of Familiars is not possible with Autekka-type magic, save perhaps at the highest levels of skill. They'll have some spellcasting ability of their own, often different from their owner's magic and some might have a more impressive form. People might want to share a familiar between a small group. Intelligent Devices Intelligent Devices are the Autekka answer to familiars. Generally taking the form of a wand or weapon, they possess some degree of sentience and are capable of semi-autonomous action. Usually they can transform into a less obstrusive form. They can enhance the user's spells and cast some of these spells of their own volition. Lacking a name for them, I stole one. You might want to have something a little more unusual or share one. We should be able to work something out. Magical Battle 101 Just a few notes I thought I should hand out. Flight! It's going to be quite common. You'd be unusual if you didn't have some way to get airborn. Rocket boosters? A broomstick? Sprouting wings? A magical road in the sky? I dunno! Firepower! I will be shocked and appalled if your big attack can't at least blow up an elephant. Homing attacks! The more advanced homing attacks diverge in two directions. Verda-types are better at 'fire and forget' ones, since they can easily imprint a measure of intelligence onto the attack. Autekka-types have to mentally control their attacks (or possibly slave them to their Intelligent Device). For this reaosn, Autekka mages tend to be good at multitasking. Admittedly, having a central intelligence coordinating the projectiles does have a few advantages. Defences! Aside from the obvious tactic of getting the hell out of dodge, there's a few main ways of defending yourself. There's using a relatively strong but small shield, although you might be able to generate multiple shields. It's typically a big disc made of magic runes. Not very good against multi-angle attacks. Next, there's a more generic forcefield barrier, which would tend to cover at least a 180 degree arc but is weaker than a shield. Next there might be a field, a skin tight aura that may also help shield from on-going or environmental effects. A barrier jacket generally has some aspects of a barrier and a field. Generally, the wider an area a defence covers, the weaker it is. It is possible to layer defences. This could be important! C-c-c-c-combos! As stated, Autekka mages have an easier time pooling their power, but Verda mages who complement each other nicely can also be quite nasty. Character Design So you've got all that? Now, with regard to these awakenings, there is... division on whether it should be allowed to go ahead or not. Mages have not been seen for a very long time, but the awakening magic can be very dangerous. There's also evidence that something is causing them to happen. In general, the Autekka Devices are trying to guide their proteges into tracking down and stopping whatever this is, while the Verda Familiars believe it should be permitted to go ahead, regardless of consequences. There will be fighting over this. I intend to start with characters just before they gain their magical abilities, so keep this in mind. I'm considering a mysterious distress call in the night, but you're free to try something a little more inventive. Anyway, onto the character profile: Name: What people know you by. Age: The time since you were born. Gender: Please, don't make me explain this to you. Magic Type: Verda or Autekka. Magic Description: What sort of thing your magic does. A few named attacks would be good too. Items/Familiar: Details about any nifty magical tools or compantions you have. Background: You... you do have a family, right? I'd like a bit of info about at least one significant NPC, since character relationships are pretty important in this genre. Oh, something I should warn you about is I think it would be good to have most people in roughly the same age group. Perhaps even the same class... Mainly because, after their first fight, having the first day of school involve a face-off when, say, the Autekka users turn out to have transferred into the same school (their old school closed over the holidays) is very, very tempting. So I'd like a fair degree of interconnection. It would be good for people to weigh in on whether they'd like to have it that they're disguised when transformed or whether they to take steps to avoid people they know. It is possible to erect large barriers, that basically kick everything in an area half a dimension over to screen out the muggles, stop monsters escaping and avoid trashing the place too much. Anything you need more info about? I know I've rambled at bit.

Name: Mika Misamoto (M2) / Hammer Mina! (Horrible name, I know. Though not all of us can have cool names like 'Card Captor Sakura' or 'Sailor Moon')
Age: 17 (This will be fixed when we come to a decision.) Gender: Female (Gah Durrr...) Magic Type: Autekka Magic Description: Buff Spells: Strength of the World - Imbue an ally with this and their physical strength will increase by ten fold for a time. Greatest Tome - Imbue an ally with increased magical power. Attack Spells: Compelling Energy - Focused beam of light. Can also be condensed into a ball. Anger Sphere - A sphere of energy is tossed at the enemy and upon impact, they will go berserk on the closest person near them. Weapon: Blammo! - Code name for the huge ass hammer she wields. Think of the Megaton Hammer with a big honking rocket booster on the end of it. One slam at full charge and don't count yourself staying on planet Earth. Even without the charge, you're liable to fly quite far. Barrier Jacket: Army Fatigues with a clever green eye mask. Items/Familiar: Intelligence Device - The clasp in the bow in her hair. Cleverly disguised. Background: Despite her age, Mika is a bit immature and tomboyish. When not wearing the school uniform, she's in a t-shirt and jeans, trying to jump off five foot ledges to fly and making airplane noises to accompany it. Not very bright and a bit silly when it comes to violence. Her favorite sports include hockey and lacrosse where she gets to hit and trip people with sticks and always enjoys a good scrapping. A bit on the eccentric side and distracted easily by shiny objects. NPC: Rina Misamoto (Mother): The one woman who knows how to keep her daughters attention for more then ten seconds at a time. The use of anything metallic and shiny is good to have when taming the wild beast. So, she keeps enough nickles and quarters ready for when she wants her daughter to obey. Kind of like a best friend to her. Daisuke Misamoto (Father): The busy man, whether he's at work or home he's doing work. Trying to avoid his insane daughter, much like his wife he makes sure to keep change handy. Kosuke Misamoto (Younger Brother): Not as hyper as his older sister, he's rather the opposite. A shut-in and keeping his nose in a book. When not at school, he's stuck in his room reading. Casually, he just rolls his eyes around her. Grei Kaylin ( Personality: Not very bright, destructive, hyper, eccentric and easily distracted. Last edited by Red Mage Black; 10-22-2008 at 12:43 PM. |

Name: Pretty Hot Asheth/ Ashley J. Ethington.
Age: Twenty Something. Don't ask. I have a lance and I'm not afraid to use it! Gender: Yo es chica. Magic Type: Autekka. Magic Description: Fire Magic that is good only for senseless destruction, and a few 'mixer' spells that can do a variety of things that are useless in battle. Big Attack: Melty Blood! Strikes the earth, causing volcanic "blood" to rise up and devour the local surroundings. Usually followed up with Asheth kicking enemies into said 'blood'. and 'melty'ing them. Bigger Attack: Melty Lancer: A giant, partially melted Lance that is capable of destroying the world if thrown into it. Best used on Aerial opponents. In space. On another planet. And even then in a direction opposite Earth. More of a threat than an actual attack, and needs to be talked out of it constantly. Will attempt to resolve most problems when frustrated with this. Items/Familiar: Familiar: None of her own. Considers random people and things to be her familiar, even so far as kidnapping other people's familiars and non-talking pets. When lacking even those, makes due with sock puppet. Intelligent Devices: The whip used as a belt is the intelligent device, though rarely used for anything other than holding her clothes together, and tying up opponents. Weaponry: Metal Bangles of a varying value, from Cheap Tin Covered with Sparklies (weak) to Platinum (Wave Motion Machine Gun). Mind you, (weak) is still enough to take out houses in a single shot with some skill. All basic attacks have a homing ability, and can be guided Background: Was born of a Tryst between a Verda and a Auttekka of rivaling factions, and has been raised as a Verda for most of her childhood, until discovering her tragic parent's history and striking out for the world. Due to a belief engrained in her by pious Verdas, she believes all Auttekka are senselessly violent people, and tries to emulate this well to fit in with her true heritage. Sadly, she enjoys this because it IS her true nature. Her NPC, as she calls him, is a Verda who she was raised with almost as a sibling, who has been sent to try and bring her back home and at least ease her destructive tendencies away from the populated world. She also lives with a stereotypical japanese-american-modern family of four, but they are more like a random family whose lives she has invaded and ignores at the same time, almost so that they feel a bit like she's taken them hostage or something. Or enslaved them to suit her notions of Magical Girlness. When neighbors come over, pretends she's housecat. The sockpuppet is woefully aware that it is yet a sockpuppet, nothing more.

Name: Demi
Alias: Nexus Age: 16 Gender: Female Magic Type: Verda Personality: Somewhat of the shy type, not really doing all that much in the way of talking to others and sharing in the social trends which is normally typical. She tries to talk to other people, but normally it doesn't go to well, except being slightly friendly with them. Probably found to be a bit creepy because of a few strange quirks she has by a good portion of others, she's a bit distant from the rest of her peers. Training in Tai Ji, and studying psychology and philosophy are what she does mostly. Its basically her main goal to figure out what makes this world go around, and she figures that this sort of thing is about the only thing she can really excel at. Her athletics being decent, but she's nothing extraordinary. Prone to moments of insanity, due to the fact she is almost certainly clinically insane. But the imaginary friends she made up for herself internally is more of a coping mechanism than anything else, although lately it has been making her friends who know the depths of it and what its doing to her very worried, and not just for her sake. Magic Description: Siphon. She drains magic, and learns fragments that she twists into her own imagined forms. Basically, she doesn't possess much magic power of her own, though she will slowly learn how to make her own magic like most of the others. Instead, she steals life, magic, power, and such from anything else to use for herself, retaining fragments to learn and craft new spells and such. ~ Siphon Branch Drain The World Essentially, naturally she takes in magic to her own body, it gets drawn to her so instead of a magical presence marking how strong she was, there would be a complete and somewhat disturbing void surrounding her. Short version, she eats magic. Siphon String This is basically the same thing, her absorbing magic into herself, but this time part of her 'barrier jacket' flies off and attaches to a particular source. She very swiftly takes into herself all that she can from the source and supplements herself with it. ~ Augmentation Branch Special She increases all her stuff by charging her body and mind with magic. Think of it like a star for a mario game, but a lot less of the total invulnerability. ° Sparkle Her physical capabilities are enhanced, and so is her barrier. Essentially, a buff to most of everything, these buffs are adjustable mid transformation. ° Spatial Mind When using this, she almost has a hyper awareness, that is, she feels like time is in slow motion all around her, and her thinking becomes a lot clearer. ~ Imagination Branch White Star Its a white orb shining brightly that she conjures. It floats around her head and body usually. ° Infuse The White Star can absorb magic just like she can. though to a much smaller extent. ° Magic Well Along with her costume and Mogura, the White Star helps to store magic and life force she attained, incase she wants to split it for some reason, or she somehow has too much and just needs to offset it somewhere. ° Attune The White Star can adjust itself to become different forms and take on different attributes, depending on what magic it holds inside itself. For example, it absorbs fire and obfuscation magic. It can then change itself to those elements. ° Expel The White Star can blast out magic in rays, waves, just about any sort of way she can think of it to shoot it out. Essentially, its a way of shooting the magic back out. ~ Genesis Branch Unreal Friends Imaginary things she thinks up to keep her company. ° Eyes Called eyes, though they can be of any sense. Extending her magic out to notice things in other areas basically. ° Critters Aw... little things are so cute.... except when they aren't. These things are generally small things, protecting or otherwise helping Demi. ° Guardian Big thing, varying in form due to situation. Its normally big and scary, and aggressive due to not being manifest unless she's in serious danger. ~ Pathos Branch Emotional Projection Aura It projects outwards from her, her emotions that is. Makes her unbearable easy to read normally, but at the same time affects everybody near her. Promotes emotions in others, which Drain The World sucks up after they are felt and let back off, its a symbiotic effect really. Items/Familiar: Mogura: Her doll, black, white, soft and fluffy. It animates and becomes her familiar, since even before she used to carry it around wherever she went. Now she does even more because it can talk back to her, and not just in her own mind. Although, the imaginary friend doll might conflict with the actual one, and screw her up. Costume: Totally jet black dress with frills and shinning white trim, and puffs on the shoulders. It protects her a tiny bit, but is much less about protection than it is about enhancing her movement and allowing her to siphon magic into herself. It does seem to be made of tons upon tons of threads. Note, currently, she needs Mogura to transform. The threads partially come from it, though they don't seem to be there before or afterwards, rather literally appearing during transformation. Background: Demi is known a bit around school, about as much as anyone else that is. She participates in several small activities and keeps herself in shape, making a small and personal circle of friends that she talks to. These friends are pretty much the only people who know that she doesn't have a real family and lives somewhere hidden, her made up family being a facade. These are the groups of friends she trusts a bit, and is open to, but to everybody else, Demi is very reserved. This special circle are the people she completely considers to be her family due to the absence of anything else even resembling one, though in reality they aren't anything more than simply her friends. Also, to help fill the gap she feels from being so alone, Demi has made up special imaginary beings to comfort her and help her get through day to day life. What used to be her family, she barely remembers now. It was such a while ago, she can scarcely even recall why they are gone anymore. Even if they were the ones to disappear from her life, or if she ran from them is all a big blur. But thats the past, right now she's trying to get a degree, learn all sorts of different things, and all of that stuff. Her research and study methods seem a bit different from the normal ways, particularly due to the fact that she has very little resources of her own and has to borrow from others. Her friends usually discourage it, especially in the times she forgets to ask beforehand, but in the end things normally turn out good enough. Last edited by Relm Zephyrous; 10-22-2008 at 12:45 AM. |

I've heard some pushing for high school and middle school! Probably where all our age ranges meet.
Even if I'm twenty something. As we all know, 20 year olds can easily pass for high schoolers in popular media!

((While Strike-Freedom tan has been done before, it is a classic, almost genre-defining character that every Magical Girl anime must have.))
Name: Shimizu Akari / Solar Defender Akari Age: 15 Gender: Female Magic Type: Autekka (Balance mode, ACTIVATE) Magic Description: Akari's magic is primarially based around focused energy projection and high-speed flight. Energy fields, thrust vectoring, homing lasers and high energy or diversive beam weapontry is the name of the game here. Her magic is celestially sylized, using astronomical and greek/latin inspirations in mandala graphics and naming. Ambit Mode: (Shortrange high-tracking closerange attacks. "Normal") Starry Sky: A rapid series of conjured homing energy-arrows that follow (in a limited fashion) their target's evasive attempts. So named as it dapples the enemy's view like the night sky. Shooting Star: A much faster (and more powerful) single arrow with more limited tracking. This arrow does not flicker and is much larger. Sidereal Embrace: A combination of the previous two fired obliquely in a circle from the caster. May or may not include the drone system for the additional arrows. Attacks veer to attack once they appear to form a suitably awesome sunburst. Vector Snap: Utilizing energy gating technology, an arrow is fired at a drone downrange, and is transferred to emit from another drone in the system. May "Richochet" in this manner several times, but loses power as the drones sap the bolt to recharge inflight. Locus Mode: (Longrange beam attacks) Thunder Exorcist: A point-blank shot that violently concusses like a thundercrack. Limited damage due to barrier energy absorbance, but very high imparted kinetic energy. Lunar Flare: A charged continuous beam cannon attack with copiously flashy mandala effects and lots and lots of lights. Limited sweeping once fired. Lunar Flare LINK: Like before, but links the drones death-star style to converge and pump the beam. -Generic Sattelite Expansion: Not really an attack per-se, but launches Ceres Aphelion's attached gun drones (or, "Sattelites") so new attacks can be performed, or the weapons may be combined with previous ones. Due to limitations in energy storage away from their master, they generally must dock again to recharge after being used. Sphere Deflector: Generic 360 degree defense field, projected automatically by Ceres. Like many omnidirectional shields, this is quite weak and mainly used for avoiding schrapnel and aerial objects, aswell as incidental ranged attacks and melee setups. First Eclipse: Disc-shaped forward shield, projected from the right hand (Or left, if Ceres is not being weilded for some reason.) Large enough to protect her entire body from one direction, and strong enough to block more significant attacks. Flight of Mercury: A pair of muted but "percievable with effort" prismatic angel-wings are emitted from the back of the Eternity Seal Aegis, allowing hovering flight. Additionally, a number of smaller fins are projected from various locations on extremities for maneuvering, and are even more difficult to see without magical assistance. When utilizing certain spells, these effects may become more pronounced, particularly when committing to a high-speed aerial dash. ((Disclaimer: These are projected. The probability of her comprehending the entirety of this quickly is not high.)) Items/Familiar: A large aircraft-wing stylized sleek longbow named Ceres Aphelion, the weapon is possessed by one of the origional Autekkan artifical general intelligences, and has since improved upon her origional design (Adding the "Aphelion" moniker) by incorporating a series of twelve detachable limited-range autonomous drones nestled in the weapon's arms, and three distinctive modes of engagement for the composite weapon. (Only ambit and locus indicated in example attacks.) Barrier Jacket: Eternity Seal Aegis: That which has existed forever, exists forevermore. The Eternity Seal exemplifies the undying nature of our fair solar system in this multilayered defensive garmet. At it's core, the Aegis is a flexible dark cloth breastplate, lined and backed with fine chains of orichalkos mesh. Over this lies a white-trimmed, azure longsleeved jacket with puffed shoulders bound at the collar with the eternity seal's physical image. Below, a matching long skirt gives ample leg protection while maintaining mobility. When transformed, Akari's hair is bound up by a pair of ribbons, so it does not interfere with her vision. Additionally, an eyepiece for Ceres' AESA (Area Encompassing Search Auspex) may or may not adorn her left eye. Though it is likely irrelevant, the Eternity Seal's nature allows it to support it's wearer's vital functions even in the depths of the black. Personality: Akari often finds more solace in her own thoughts than she does around her friends, often much to their chagrin. While she often has grandoise and admittantly impractical wishes (as should anyone her age), she understands the constraints of reality and values the company of her friends. She would go far out of her way to help them and others out of trouble if she were able. Background: A young schoolgirl of 15, Akari looks like your bog-standard highschool girl. Easily glossed over given typical appearances, she has long, dark hair and classic brown eyes. Despite her mundane appearance Akari is a unrepetant dreamer, both raised and somewhat naturally believing she has the ability to change people's lives (for the better, of course!) through actions and kindness. That is of course, if she can manage to help herself pass Mathematics. Family/Friends- Father: Shimizu Ichiro, whom works for a telecommunications company. Ichiro is a network engineer and has comprehensive knowledge of computers and network systems. He is a kind and dutiful father who is devoted to maintaining a stable and loving family. Mother: Shimizu Megumi, a career schoolteacher, she adores children and enjoys helping people learn to better themselves. Older Brother: Shimizu Ryuichi, a college student following his father in the path of network engineering, though perhaps not with his heart. Ryuichi is an athletic and competitive boy who enjoys sports more than he does his studies. Fortunately for him, he is intelligent enough to pass his classes with minimum effort, and tends to be cocky about this fact. Despite his vices, he is an honorable young man and Akari admires some of his better qualities. Younger Brother: Shimizu Kenta, a middle-school student and shameless lover of super-robot and mecha anime, particularly the Gundam series. A hobbyist gamer, he enjoys fast paced shooters and instant gratification, as he is fairly lacking in patience. Sister: Shimizu Mistsuko, seen elsewhere. School friends: Watanabe Miyuki: The brains of their little group with the round-rim glasses to prove it, Miyuki excels at mathematics where Akari does not. A shy girl, she relies on the other two for the moral support and provides them with the assistance they need in their studies. Ishioka Reiko: The "tomboy" or more accurately "tsundere", Reiko randomly flips from adorable to antagonistic when confronted by people who are not her close friends. Understanding this, she is friends with Akari and Miyuki because the two are able to curb her tendancies when they would be "undesirable". She does not admit her secret crush on one of the boys in their class.
