Demotivation.

So last week I found out that I had a lean event to attend this week. It was supposed to be on improving a group of manufacturing operators... I was losing my weekend (I usually have Monday and Tuesday off), but I would get to be a part of improving quality and processes, or so I thought. Instead I suffered through a horribly demoralizing experience in which people older than me enforced sloppy (compared to what I would consider a quality controlled process) outdated model of work practices and inspections with no real accountability and yards of wiggle room built into it. This bothered me a lot, then I found out that despite working on my "weekend" I would have to work my normal weekend hours despite being on overtime before the normal work week ended. That completely killed any desire I have to be here, I am at work now and should have been done long ago, yet I cannot make myself care enough to finish what I'm doing. Now I am considering just finishing my paperwork and going home, leaving quite a mess for the first shift guy. It isn't fair to him, but I'm to the point of not really caring.

Have you guys had similar experiences?

All i have to say is Grant Applications.
Sigh.
And cost-management reports.
I need a temperature ramper for my TPD. It's quite simple. Even the undergrad labs have them. They wouldn't cost that much.
BUt noooooo. No one does physical chemistry. And I still manage to achieve my results without the temperature ramper so the economists see no point in giving me one. But it would make thigns so much easier. My current machien is cannibalised from like 8 different machines. One bit is held on with duct tape.
Sigh.. Why won't they let scientists run the science funding department.

I think dropping hints that working without proper equipment can yield very unforeseeable results, paired with a few well-timed explosions and/or interesting smells, might be the strategy to apply here.

Whenever I go in to clean after the other guy cleaned. If I cleaned the night before, Im good, takes me 2 hours, I get a ton of extra stuff done, but when I go in after him, he leaves me all the shit he doesnt wanna do (despite the fact he actually has to do these things as part of his fuckin job), and its awful. I ussually have to stay late to finish.
