How much would YOU pay?
so a buddy of mine just told me over the phone that be purchased a brand new (read: completely rebuilt) Old-school Nintendo Entertainment System.
Yes, an NES... And how much did he pay for this thing? 100 bucks! I mean holy crap! You can buy a PS2 on ebay for like half that. I'd have GIVEN him MINE if I had even known he was even looking. Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for having my childhood repackaged and sold back to me in nice shiney new wrapping (i.e. Transformers, the greatest movie EVARZ), but $100 for an NES? I dunno.. seems too much to me. So this begs the question, who ELSE has deliberately had themselves taken to the cleaners for something nostalgic, or just plain old "had to have it"? Not asking for how much you spent, just WHAT you spent your hard earned somolians on, and why. Edit: Cars don't count.... :o lol double edit: I mean real cars that is... Little Matchbox/Hot Wheels can be included

Is it brand new or completely rebuilt? If it's brand new, it was worth more than 100, if it was rebuilt, he paid exactly the right price. $100 isn't really that much these days, ya know.

The important thing is that it is WORKING. Most people didn't take very good care of their NESs and discarded them when the Next Big Thing came out. I was very lucky--my 17 year-old NES has been through hell and back, and I've played it as recently as a few months ago. The worst thing about NES maintenance is the fact that if certain parts get exposed to corrosion, they are difficult to fix, much less replace. It's frustrating.
When the Wii came out, we went ahead and got one, even though I was between jobs at the time. It was worth it, though, since our friends and family have had so much fun playing...and of course, now we have Brawl, so it was even more worth it. |

Aside from that, its not going to be very long before these things are extinct. They're already becoming extremely rare, and in the not-so-distant future they may end up being worth loads to collectors.

Does he even have any games? Cause otherwise its a $100 paperweight.
I fixed my Windows 3.1 machine for my great grandfather. I love the mouse game on it! Who knew it could be so fun! XD

Fully rebuilt. I don't think a "New" NES even exists now-a-days
And, oh yes, he has games.. even a few of mine. And it's not the actual cost, in dollars, for the unit, which is a pittance, yes. It's the uhh... worth(?) of the unit. Is it really WORTH paying $100 for. Like would you pay $5.00 for a package of gum? And what ELSE would you deem worth being gouged in the eye ball for?

It's a fully functional original PAL region NES I've got in the attic. I might even have the box somewhere.

That was exactly my plan, to modify a leather glove for those. But I figured I'd best take a break on the spendin'. Plus I need my current pair of gloves for winter.
EDIT: Haha, I hadn't even thought of that!
