Midnight's Soul
I dredged this up from somewhere.
Midnight's Soul Born of the sun, I grew in fiery day, The light around me always, friend and foe A Master's orders ever to obey But harshness softened by the gentle glow Of loving heart, too pure to taint A gentle, guiding hand to paint my life in shades of wondrous brown and gold And childhood demons, a soft, kind voice consoled Yet far away in the night's endless blue I felt you waiting, alone and cold From the depth of midnight's soul, I called you. Born of the moon, in waters of the night I reached out to my sister the sky And grasped a star of glimmering white It led my mind to gleaming towers high And showed me worlds in worlds where all was laid bare, left open for me to learn and call my own. But even there inside my dream I was haunted by the echo, the unattainable gleam -- Because far inside my heart, I always knew That you waited somewhere in the dark for me From the depth of midnight's soul I called you. Tested in fire, our hearts together bound A fragile tie, but stronger now than death Infinite love, with sacred glory crowned One soul, one heart, one dream, one breath But twisted fate cannot let love survive And steals our happiest days ere they arrive Our lush world turns to suffocating drought In pain and rage, a confused, inchoate shout -- I fall back into the fire from which I grew. As the flames consume, my heart screams out From the depth of midnight's soul I call you. Tested in blood, at your side, I fight I know your love in battle's maddened cry And in the glances and caresses of the night My soul holds yours in gentle bonds; we fly into the paradise of worlds beyond above The sweet and tender worlds created by your love But paradise is swept in anger's flood And ecstasy descends to pain and blood I weep, even now, as hope is born anew Among the ashes, a weak and fragile bud From the depth of midnight's soul I call you. Alone in the void, when all is dark around me I will see your face, so perfect in my mind A jewel glimmering in the depths of midnight's sea A reminder of the world of light I left behind The one thing even endless darkness cannot take My soul's secret, a deep-down dream that cannot wake Just beyond my vision, beyond the reach of my eye, It will hover in the shadow until hope's cry Brings my vision at last around to true And pulls me back to light I can't deny From the depth of midnight's soul I'll call you. As the world at last around us is reborn We will mend the hearts that long ago were torn And fate's storms finally free us from pursuit For lost years and darkness, together we will mourn -- From the depth of midnight's soul I'll call you. |
