Default The NPF Christmas Table 2008 Edition : Now it's personal!

I cant post this on Community so here we go!

And welcome back again to one more edition of this Thread!

It's less than 10 days untill Christmas now, so most families are starting to prep up. Discussing plans, recepies and doing at least some advanced shopping for the day.

Black friday is over, 3 people died because of it, now we can move on to jolly things that dont revolve around fist fighting to get that last Nintendo Wii... now we can talk about fist fighting over the last slice of ham!!

So, what's your gourmet expectations? What can we expect to see in your table this chirstmas?

This year over here we're having a Half Traditional,Half veggie dinner because of my Sister and her 5 year old son (kid never ate meat!!! Refuses even!) so we are actually going to have an extra place in the table for some Soy and Tabbouleh to compliment their feast =P

Also, im making a secondary side dish with Heart-of-Palm, Olives and Portobello mushrooms with those mini tomatoes. It goes really well with the turkey and ham!

We're not doing much. Just ham, green bean casserole, and rolls.

I did manage to propose the idea of loaded mashed potatoes though. They sound delicious and my fiancee loves me

Loaded? With alcohol? Gunpowder? Throw me a bone, here! >.<

I'd go on and on about our family tradition of dinner at the grandparents' with a super turkey from my grandma, roast beef, beets, black olives, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and gravy, fake champagne, a vegetable tray and dip, pickles, stuffing made from scratch... @-,@

Uh, forgot where I was going with that.

...Oh! I WOULD go on and on about that (I guess I already did a bit), but with my grandparents having been hospitalized on the major food holidays for the past two years, my cousin having had another major back surgery recently, and the new baby and my other cousin's wife being in Green Bay with her and my aunt (Kevin was unfortunately deployed to Iraq at 8AM this morning), it's looking like the tradition of essentially a Christmas Thanksgiving has ended for the foreseeable future. I'm sure we'll still have a lot of the same food items, but my aunt is less than a domestic queen and if Thanksgiving serves as an example, I can fully expect the food to be overcooked and dry, especially the meat.

Edit:

VVV I'm sorry, but that reminds me of an SNL (Mad TV?) skit involving a raw turkey and a Foreman grill.

I'm gone from here for good. This place gave me many memories to take with me and shaped me greatly. I still care about you guys. I just can't stay.

Loaded with cheese, bacon bits, and chives. A co-worker told me you just throw that stuff in shortly before you're done mashing the potatoes for instant heaven.

Yeah I'm almost done planning the menus for both dinners. Christmas Eve will be sausage stuffed mushrooms, roast chicken (or turkey, not decided on that yet), mashed potatoes & gravy, croissants and a vegetable of some sort.

Christmas Day we'll have glazed ham, fried oysters, mashed potatoes & gravy (I'll make extra Christmas Eve), green bean casserole, baked mac 'n cheese and rolls.

And desserts, plenty of desserts.
