Mini Ninjas, the ninja game that has no fountains of blood whatsoever

You probably know IO Interactive as the creators of Hitman, Hitman 2, Hitman's Horse Adventure and Kane & Hitman. They're currently doing Mini Ninjas, a rather surprising departure from their usual gritty fare that looks immensely promising.

The story goes like this, an evil Samurai warlord is turning innocent woodland creatures into smaller evil Samurai to build an army for himself, and you're a fun-sized ninja tasked to take care of the issue, not entirely unlike a certain hedgehog. To accomplish this you certainly can fight (killing an enemy will result in the original animal reappearing in a puff of smoke), but also sneak around or use your being in touch with nature to take on various animal forms.

It's set to come out in autumn. Here, have a trailer.

Hitman games never quite clicked with me (despite undisputed quality) but this looks like it's gonna be excellent. I love the atmosphere already - it reminds me a bit of Okami, actually. Definitely going to keep track of this one.

Art style and premise have me interested, though I'm going to wait for gameplay to determine more.

Interview on German Eurogamer; nothing terribly exciting but some info about the developers' approach. They're going for authenticity; authentic to Ninja mythology, that is, not to history. They also got a lot of the dialogue professionally translated and voice-acted in Japanese.
