Noblemen are among the most frequent customers of the Adventurer’s guild services, but it rare for them to deal with the guild itself directly. Most of the time they send a proxy to secure a contract with the guild, and this case is no exception. Today, you are meeting with a servant who goes by the name of Icon, though your group doesn’t have to travel far to find him.

The guild hall is almost a district in and of itself, though it’s only natural for an organization as large and influential as your own. Its property is divided into four sectors, each one corresponding to an element. In the Earth sector, one can find the dormitories and medical center. In the Fire sector one can find the training hall, as well as the blacksmiths that forge the weapons and armor adventurers and outsiders alike can purchase and use. In the Water sector there is a library as well as the famous Hall of Heroes, which holds the legacies of many a famous adventurer.

Your business, however, takes you to the Wind sector, which houses various shops – as well as a pub where many of the clients, or agents of clients such as , meet with their contracted adventurers.

It’s still early morning when you arrive at the Eleventh Hour. Business has yet to pick up, though there are a few people who are finding breakfast here. The smell of eggs and sausage wafts past your noses as you enter, but there’s no time to eat – the person you’re looking for is already here.

There, sitting at a large table by himself, is a man dressed in a suit. At a first glance, he appears to be a tall hume with medium length black hair, though you only have to get closer to notice that his eyes are entirely black, lacking both pupils and as well as the spark of life. As he catches sight of you, he motions for you to sit down, which your group obliges.

“My master has recently discovered some ruins in Sinner’s Horizon,” the android says, getting straight to the point. “Though an important relic that he has been searching for seems to be located within its chambers, there are traps set in place to guard it.

“Your mission is to slip past these traps and recover the relic. A map will be provided for you, as well transportation to the entrance of these ruins – though once you are inside, you will be on your own.”

Jal's eyes seemed to light up below the hood that was hiding his mithra heritage at the word, "Relic," and very little else that the android said, nor even the fact that it was, indeed, an android mattered past that point.

Jal placed his hands on the table and leaned forward, his teeth gleaming with a predatory smile as he stared at the android before speaking; "Reelllic?" he asked, equal parts excitement, unfettered joy, and greed in his voice. "What kind of relic? What's it made of? What does it do? How much is it worrrrrth?" he rolled the 'r's in worth as he spoke, almost making a purring noise.

Quickly catching his greed, however, he quickly backpeddled a bit backing away from the table and forcing his excitement down to a more calm and professional demeanor, "We'll need a description, after all to make sure we know it when we find it... and knowing what it does and how likely bandits might be to seek it out would help us to transport it back more safely." He nodded quickly, as though those were the only concerns on his mind, silently congratulating himself on how professional he was.

The android's eyes settled on Jal, blinking slowly. If he noticed something, he didn't say anything, before nodding.

"The relic in question is nothing more than a tome. Depending on its condition, its monetary value is unknown, though there are undoubtedly some collectors out there who would pay good money for it. If bandits were to learn about it, there is no doubt that some might try to acquire it for themselves.

"In truth, my master is probably worried that someone else might have found out about it already. It is not a matter that he would divulge with me, however."

With that, he faced the group as a whole again, sitting back in his chair.

"As for its contents, my master is something of a scholar. Though he has not discussed the details of that relic, it is likely that the contents contain some information on ancient civilization. Due to its age, though, I would advise not reading it yourself - my master would prefer not to risk damaging its pages."

"Other than these possible bandits, exactly what kind of obstacles should we expect to encounter? You mention traps, so someone must have already been in and failed. What sort of traps are there? And are there any guardians lurking in the ruins? I've noticed an unfortunate tendency for those sorts of places to be teeming with undead."

Bello's ears drooped when the android said they couldn't read the book. "I guess I understand..." he mumbled into his chest. However, he wasn't the type to mope, so he brightened up and excitedly followed up on Vit's questions. "Yeah, who's been there before us? Is there some kind of super ancient curse that turns adventurers into zombies? Do you think the map has the traps on it? Is there a big X where the book is? Who made the map, anyway? Does he live in Rios?" Bello was standing on his tip toes in his chair, leaning on the table with both arms by the time he'd belted out his questions. Ancient ruins are pretty exciting.

Ralt's lifted his hat up to show his eyes also widened with a mixture greed and excitement similar to Jal's and Bello's when the Android mentioned a relic. 'It was a a book to, think of what he could learn! It was also likely written in Ancient, this kept getting better'!

The Red Mage's eyes then filled with a look of dissapointment as the android explained that he couldn't read it. 'Damn greedy scholar!' Now Ralt's would have to settle for the monetary reward.

Adding to the questions earlier, Ralt's lowered his red face scarf and asked the servant in his rather neutral voice, "What reward are we going to receive for this good sir, and at what time will we depart?" Ralt's was rather ready as it was, but he still wanted to have some input in the conversation.

"As far as my master knows, nobody had entered before himself for quite some time," Icon says. "However, we know of the existence of the traps because they are marked on the map.

"Of course, my Master does not wish to take the chance that someone simpy forgot to write some down. The map is old, coming roughly from the same era as the ruins themselves, and until you arrive there yourself it will be difficult to determine how accurate it is. As for monsters - as far as the map details, there are no guardians or undead, though that is not a guarantee that they aren't there either."

"It does, however, mark where the treasure is. It lies in the deepest chamber in the ruins, sealed in a stone container. You will need to remove its lid to acquire it, though that should be a simple task compared to getting there in the first place."

"Your monetary reward will be a sum of 4000 gil, plus an additional bonus depending on your performance.

"As for when we leave," he said, running a hand through his hair. "We will whenever you are ready. It'll take a couple of days to reach the ruins, though I'm sure that the trip will seem like it passes by in a flash."

Jal's shoulders drooped, and his head hung at the mention of a book. Books weren't shiny. They weren't gilded in gold, or trimmed in mythril. They weren't beautiful or magical, or complex little machines. In short: They were boring.

Then Ralt, obviously a man after Jal's own heart, asked about the reward, and the response came back. Four thousand gil. Jal couldn't make half that if he pawned every item he owned. Jal couldn't even make an eighth of that. And their were traps. He almost forgot the traps. He LOVED traps. Little devices to be toyed with, that worked so delicately and perfectly in his dexterous hands.

The smile and gleam of greed returned to both his eyes and his face as his entire body took on a more motivated and excitable stance. "No worries about traps, I can handle those. I'll just sneak along in front so you all won't have to worry about it," 'And help myself to a few glittering things if they be there,' he did not say. "Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go. This book isn't getting any younger, and who knows whom else might know about it now. No time to waste, to Sinner's Horizon!" He exclaimed with a flourish as he pointed dramatically in the general direction of the airship docks, assuming, of course, that it would be their method of travel.

Vit grinned. "Sounds good to me. A nice bit of pay for keeping these rapscallions on their feet long enough to fetch your book." He looked over his shoulder at the others. "But then, I suppose it's up to them, really. What say you, friends? Shall we help out a poor scholar with nowhere else to turn?"

Bello puffed out his cheeks. "Of course we will!" he said, slapping his hands on the table. "That was decided as soon as he said 'ruins' and 'treasure.'" Pointing along with Jal, he cheered, "Yeah, let's go! To Sinner's Horizon! We'll get that book and a tan at the same time!"
