Repo Men
was terrible. Ok so it was passable until the It was all just a dream ending. I stopped writing those endings in or around third grade. All emotional impact of this film has been drained. It is meaningless. It could have been good, even thought-provoking, until some jerkass decided to play to the lowest common denominator. Instead of a subtle suggestion, we got a jackhammer.
I hate going to the movies while smart.

The musical was pretty bad, mostly because it focused too much on the music and kept the plot to 30 second clips between songs.

It was pretty great, but some of the songs... were terrible. I mean, Mark It Up is just... ugh.

I was okay with the opera. I like a lot of the songs (Gold, Night Surgeon, Let the Monster Rise, among others) and I listen to the soundtrack from time to time.
I didn't like the Shilo character much. I understand why but it amazed me how little self-preservation she had. "Okay, I'll just get into the limo with the stranger to further the plot." I enjoyed the Blind Mag and Nathan characters, though. And Rotti's a magnificent bastard. I have nothing to say about this new movie but it seems very typical Hollywood action from the little I've seen. Last edited by Viridis; 03-20-2010 at 03:13 AM. Reason: Typo. |

Edit: I'm confused - is this movie related to the musical in any official manner? Anyway, I looked at the wiki, and it looks pretty awful.

What Bit said. What I loved about Repo is because it basically said "The original part of our plot is the fact that it is almost 98% entirely music."
It wasn't the most mind-blowingly amazing plot (pretty good opera plot, IE, a huge tragedy with lots of death), but as Bit said there were so many things going for it. I can't get how come critics slammed it for being a bit goofy at times and intentionally gory. EDIT: it isn't related at all, Bit. They basically took the plot to Repo and said, hmm, how can we make it a generic movie and gut all the creativity and fun this other movie had?

Yeah, apparently it's based on a book, so I'm assuming they're based on the same book.

I can totally see someone looking at an advertisement for that and going, "Hmmm, you know, Sarah Brightman is good in operas but...it's missing something."
