Tech Support Wii Weirdness
Earlier today, my brother was play Smash Bros on my Wii, and it, in his words, "shorted out." When I checked it, it wouldn't turn on, and the little light on it wouldn't turn on when plugged in. I tried with multiple outlets, and checked to make sure these outlets were working with other electrical devices. That's the normal part. Things got weird when I plugged my Wii in again fifteen or so minutes later and it did turn on and everything. My concern right now is is this fine to just start playing my Wii again and all, or is this the sign of a much bigger potential problem. Any ideas on what could cause this are also welcome.

It means there was a power surge on the outlet. Either from weather, or just a short in the line. It's part of the Wii's design; it trips and powers it off until it's unplugged and plugged back in.

It's incredibly useful, and has saved my Wii's life a few times.

I probably shouldn't further derail this thread, but was that a serious question about Noncon? Like, do you read his posts?

In any case, I am leery of electronics that don't work and then suddenly do later. Your Wii might be perfectly fine, but then again it might have a short or something that will only show itself randomly? Hmm.

I suppose the only thing you can really do right now is to keep an eye on it and not attempt to play for long sessions for now until you feel you can comfortably assume it's OK. Aside from taking it apart and looking for issues, if that's something you like doing.


e: I mean like were other things working in those outlets? Is the Wii currently in one of those outlets now and working? Could it have been a loose wire?

e2: If the "little light" that wasn't coming on is one on the power supply [I forget if it has one or not, as mine is behind my TV stand], it could have been that something happened, like a surge or similar, and the power supply brick had to <insert technical/correct terms here> for a little bit before it was good to go again. Like when you unplug a laptop adapter and its light remains on, there could have been some power shenanigans inside it that aren't actually indicative of an ongoing issue.

But I'm no electrician, and a console isn't quite like a computer for troubleshooting, so I may just be completely posting out of my ass.
