Idols
Now when I talk idols 'M not talkin' 'bout that thing from the beginning of Indiana Jones And The Nazis Of Doom, I'm talking about your... heroes.(?) The people that inspire you, the people who get you to get up and do something. It could be sports (Go Canucks!(Not a sports fan, just patriotic)) or novelists or movie makers or family or whatnot. Just someone who inspires you to do what you do doin' what they do.
My idol - well, idols - are Kevin Smith and Quentin Tarantino. You could call Kevin Smith a vulgar purveyor of stoner comedies and Quentin Tarantino a pop culture ADHD speeder - but they know how to write. They write really good dialogue, better than I can hope to achieve. It occurs to me that 'M postin' another thread in Media Consumption, and I meant to post this in General, and I'm all mixed up. If someone could move this to General, t'would be appreciated. Last edited by Seil; 06-07-2011 at 12:07 AM. |

Stephenie Meyer. She proved to me that anyone can get published.

Michael Moorcock, George R. R. Martin, Robert Jordan, Guy Gavriel Kay, John Jakes, John Steinbeck, Cormac McCarthy, Hironobu Sakaguchi, and Yasumi Matsuno.
I felt the same way when I heard about Christopher Paolini: 17 years old, extremely derivative fantasy story, published and extremely popular overnight for no apparent reason.

No reason? No reason?! Excuse me, good sir, but there was a very good reason. His parents published his godawful book.

Nathan Fillion is the ideal that every man should aspire to.
Patrick Rothfuss is pretty outstanding, too - a guy who wrote his masterpiece, edited the shit out of it until it shined, and managed to pull himself to written stardom without banking on shitty teen emotion (Meyer) or bullshit connections (Paolini). |

Ray Feist is the author I'd like to be. Dustin Kensrue the Musician I worship (shrine and sacrifices included), and Mike Richter, the winningest goaltender in Rangers history
