OK Go: Awesome, or Super Awesome?
I've been on an OK Go kick lately.
For those not in the know, OK Go is a band that gained stardom by doing clever music videos for themselves over youtube, and now have a much larger budget and more creative assistance for even more awesome videos. The music videos are awesome: One of their most famous videos, Here It Goes Again. Treadmills ahoy! One of the most elaborate, This Too Shall Pass, in which they recruit the engineering department of a university to build them a little Rube Goldberg machine. Same song, different video. This time with HOLY COW SUDDENLY MARCHING BAND OUT OF NOWHERE! One of their earliest, A Million Ways. Who thought a bunch of dudes dancing in someone's backyard could be so awesome? White Knuckles is a fantastically choreographed video that's--OHMYGOSHPUPPIES End Love, which sounds really disco but is somehow also really good. Stop-motion animated glory. Also a bird. Recently Disney/Jim Henson Company hired them to do a Muppets Theme Song music video, but it's really not as good as their independent stuff. I'm gonna blame Disney. Their music that DIDN'T get made into fabulous videos is also pretty awesome, especially In The Glass and Before The Earth Was Round, but I'll spare you six billion more links here. So. Yeah. Discuss, I guess. Chat amongst yourselves about how you'll never be as awesome as these individuals. Or, I guess, how OK Go is overrated and not all its cracked up to be, if you want. I don't know WHY you'd want to, because you'd be wrong, probably, but you're entitled to your own horrible opinion.

And Damian Kulash's scream at the end of the Muppet video is priceless.

I've always seen OK Go as a band that you should hate, but no one actually has a bad thing to say about them.
I actually really like the first two albums, never bother passed that.

But I like metal more than pop rock, so other people might find them more interesting...they just sound like other pop rock bands to me but people who listen to pop rock more might be able to better differentiate. The reason you feel like you should hate them is our frail human minds and our knee-jerk reactions to the vestiges of hipsterism and/or popularity inherent in Ok Go!. I am as guilty as the next of such reactions, though I would like to attempt to keep an open mind...for instance, I understand that my reaction of unbridled hate to the uttered words "Arcade Fire" is undoubtedly irrational, as I'm not really sure if I have ever actually listened to Arcade Fire before (although presumably their music has been in the latest annoying commercial). I can recognize it as irrational, and have to work through it and actually listen to Arcade Fire sometime. But I'll put it off as long as possible.

Is it because it's underground and I've probably never heard of it?
