RWBY - Are the weapon designs an inside job by Insomniac Games?
So I think with the 3rd trailer out there's enough to talk about to make this its own thread.
First the trailers First trailer showed off the art style, animation quality and outrageous-fight-scene focus of the series. There was enough to intrigue people, despite a few rough spots (awful sound effects for the wolves stands out the most). It was a strong introduction. Second trailer introduces the next character (whose voice actor sings all songs with female vocals so far) and is a great example of tying the pace of every element of the presentation together. Definitely the best trailer so far. Third trailer comes up yesterday and that's where the worries come in. Up until that point the trailers did a good job of ignoring two critical points, the story and voice acting. First, voice acting is bad, the man putting an overdramatic drawl into his growling manner, and the female character's tone does not match the situation or what we would expect. Then the story (still assuming there is one), we see the characters jump onto a train and 'set the charges' and disregard the unseen civilians' safety with no context to invest us into the situation. Through all this apparently some unsaid character conflict happens and we get a very anticlimatic ending. This is the trailer that makes me worried. But this is Roosterteeth, who managed to patch a shallow comedy into the surface of a deep and complex story with actual characters and things. They could very well start off strong, or start off weak and quickly escalate this to the best action anime ever because Claymore's anime is out of production. I can't really settle on a persistent opinion until I see the Yellow trailer. So, is this shit/unshit/meh/mediocre to you guys so far? Last edited by Aldurin; 11-08-2013 at 09:37 AM. |

i pretty sure we had a thread about this or at least a post when the first trailer came out... i recall seeing this and drawing a little paralell on how Red seemed a lot "red hiding hood" and white being anything like "snow white" would set a trend in my eyes... not so sure about that now.
The voice acting is not that bad... the guy sure, the "snake growl" is overused in American Dubs and not always fitting... the girl, is fit. Mostly she spouts quick lines... can't get a read of her just yet. Maybe it fits her character... for the context, there is subtle context in all trailers... in the first we have a loner huntress, in the other we have someone who presents herself as a sweet and mellow public picture deep in classical music and opera style presentations, parallel right there with a tough fighter who shows to be fearless. In the third we have a rogue, probably walking "the line between good and bad" that still shows a broader view of care for the consequence of her actions... So... yeah... there are character traits in all trailers. The problem is not they existing or not, is to see if rooster teeth can develop and sustain them. |

I'd say that the trailers work for what trailers are supposed to do: Catch your attention.

I wonder where I saw that gun-sword before
---------- Post added 03-24-2013 at 12:12 AM ---------- Previous post was 03-23-2013 at 11:25 PM ---------- But anyway, yeah I agree the voice acting is pretty bad right now. Even with Black, some of her lines just fell flat and had no emotion behind them. The two biggest culprits being "We need to get out of here" and "Are you sure?" Those lines were extremely monotonous given what was going on. I really liked what they were doing with the allusions to fairy tale characters, and I'm sad to see that's not going to be a theme across all the characters. Unless Black/Blake is an allusion to some obscure fairy tale or one I don't know about. As for the whole civilian thing, I was under the impression Black/Blake unhitched the train and left the dude behind to save the civvies (who would be at the front of the train because that's normally where the only folks on a cargo train are).

Yes.
So much so that i honestly cant think it was a coincidence! Also... maybe Black and Blaker are Hansel and Gretel? that would make Yellow rapunzel? |

After looking past the action, I've been wondering if they mentioned anything about what RWBY's story is going to be. If it hasn't been mentioned already, I guess we'll find out this summer.
EDIT: I believe the dude's name is Adam. But you know what, Tuxedo Mask works fine too. |

I re-watched the White trailer and the top comment brought up an interesting point. In Red we have a full moon, in White it looks like the moon is being broken up, or possibly getting covered/consumed by something, and in Black the deterioration is much worse. Sooo, possible plot stuffs there.

In addition to Rapunzel, Yellow could also be Goldilocks.

Also red was definitely winter, and Black as clearly Autumm. I don't recall signs of White being Spring or Summer though....

Well the opera house didn't have a roof, thus open to the elements, and it was nighttime at that so I would guess it was summer.

Yeah like many I was not impressed with the Black trailer at first. Mainly because of Adam, dude stole the spotlight from Blake too much and his voice acting is terrible. Also the sudden arrival of high tech mechs was kind of jarring, until then the only piece of really advanced tech we'd seen was Rubys Crescent Rose.
It did offer some more insight into the connections between the characters; the possibility of Ruby and Adam being related, the Schnee family crest on the cargo crates, which seems to imply her family are involved in their manufacture, the continuing degradation of the moon, etc. Still, what we did see of Blake was cool. Anyone with a pistol-sword-whip with sword sheath is ok by me. Ruby is still my favourite character so far (gota love a badass redhead with a sniperscythe), but overall I think Whites trailer was the best. Still optimistic on what Yellow and the series will bring.
