DC's Bet : Superman Vs Batman Movie
Officially annouced during Comic Con
Quote:
Now, it was pretty clearly stated that the new movie would NOT be based off this... however, it brings up speculation. How are they going to build up from Man of Steel and using superman as device to reboot Batman? Can there be 2 superman movies without Lex Luthor? For Batman to work against Superman, Kryptonite will have to be introduced. Also the action will have to be scaled down unless Batman has a Orbital laser... |

One of these characters is a cash cow escapist fantasy. The other is Superman
You say that as though there was any serious possibility that the filmmakers weren't going to give him an orbital laser.

I'm sure fans will complain about this move despite this being what they all said they wanted, a World's Finest movie before any attempt to make a Justice League.
My only trepidation is Snyder's involvement since I thought about 1/3 of Man of Steel was terrible. |

My only problem with this is David S. Goyer is still around.

This right here. The movie's going to be mediocre at best and horrifyingly bad at worst.

Is it just me who thinks "gets the genre" is code for "thinks comics that never end but get infinitely watered down as they're passed between generation after generation of writers and artists are the best thing ever"? Not that I'm bitter about dull-ass comics about Hulk, Spider-man, Superman and Batman turning out like fifty movies while Death the High Cost of Living stays in development hell for ten years with no end in sight, oh no.

i must say i'm a bit more surprised to the fact that nobody here reacted badly to the fact that they are using "Dark Knight Returns" as the stepping platform to launch superman 2

Except that every single analysis of that particular panel I have read has concluded that the quote was simply used as a rhetorical device and the plot of The Dark Knight Returns is not conclusively in any way shape or form actually been announced to be influencing the plot of this movie except maybe that Batman and Superman get in a fight at some point.

Oh the influence is there... it's just a matter of what angle they are working out off. I mean, it's a Superman movie with Batman in it. Not a 50/50 movie or a batman movie, so you don't want batman taking stage center.
One speculative thread is that Lex Luthor tricks superman into "repenting" for the damage he has done by becoming essentially his lap dog while luthor rebuilds the city. Bruce wayne as a competitor millionare comes to the scene to break Luthor's plot down, and Luthor sets superman after Batman, as they clash. Eventually Luthor is revelead as the real bad guy and Superman turns around to help Batman take him down. |
