HMRWS - Starring The Antichrist!
Wasn't Jason Miller's character in The Exorcist Damien Karras?
The Cast Gregory Peck plays American ambassador Robert Thorn, Lee Remick plays his wife Katherine, and Harvey Stephens plays their son Damien. Patrick Troughton plays Father Brennan, David Warner plays press photographer Keith Jennings, and Billie Whitelaw plays the nanny Ms. Baylock. The Plot Robert Thorn is an American ambassador stationed in Rome, where the movie starts at a hospital, where Katherine Thorn is giving birth. A priest working for the hospital informs Robert that his child had died during delivery. The priest suggests that Robert adopt a child without Katherine's knowledge. Soon, Robert and Katherine are bringing home a baby boy they name Damien. When Damien is five years old, Robert has been relocated to London. Robert and Katherine decide to hold a large party for their young son, during which Damien's nanny calls out to him from the roof. Standing atop the roof of the Thorn's large home with a noose wrapped around her neck, she smiles and tells the boy "it's all for you" before jumping. Father Brennan - a priest coming all the way from Rome - tries to talk to Robert after this incident, claiming that the child is the antichrist. Robert has him removed from the building. Keith Jennings, a press photographer who was present at Damien's birthday, takes pictures of Father Brennan, where he discovers upon developing them that several lines appear in Brennan. When Brennan dies by being impaled, the same way the lines appeared in his photo, Keith takes his concerns to Robert as Ms. Baylock appears to take the place of Damien's nanny. Personal Opinion It's slow. There's definitely a general creepiness present throughout the movie, and the death scenes are pretty great. Gregory Peck is fantastic, as is expected. Final Opinion It really depends on what you want in your horror movie, Do you want a cinematic experience with a slow build? Or do you want nail biting, edge of your seat scares? Because this film belongs in the former category. I think it's worth a look, for the graveyard scene in particular - just know what you're getting yourself into. |
