"Steven Universe" or "We Can Talk About Adventure Time Too, I Guess"
Thought about whether or not Cybersix was intersex or gender fluid and then I discovered Steven Universe:
So what is this? Is this Adventure Time? Is this show cool? Should I get into it? Come to think of it, I haven't watched Adventure Time in a whi-Marceline's mom?! Last edited by Seil; 02-29-2016 at 02:26 AM. |

I've only seen a few episodes of Steven Universe, but it seems pretty boss. What I've heard of the soundtrack is pretty awesome, and there's a lot of attention to subtle details. Like, in this clip:
My favorite part is how right at the end you can just see on his face how uncomfortable he is with his friend mentally preparing herself to die.

Yes, you should watch Steven Universe. As should everyone.

Its a pretty fantastic show. It has some clumsy episodes early on (I hated Frybo) but after a certain point it grows into a consistently solid show with a neat world. It handles mature ideas/themes while still remaining a kid's show and has a plot/characters that are also deep enough to keep the viewer's interest. Not to mention it has a great soundtrack.

So we are clear

Both are good shows but I don't think they are the same type of show. Steven Universe is more of a character piece about how these deeply fleshed out characters interact and change with plot existing mostly to contextualize these things.
Adventure Time is about the world and how people live within it. Its why you get alot more stories about Ice King, Marceline, Bubblegum, ect than episodes exploring the history of our two leads. They exist as an escapist avatar for the audience to interact with the world. Now that I think about it, its very much like a Table Top RPG. One is focused on the player characters and role playing, the other is more about quests and adventuring. Complete with the looseness of narrative to allow for more interesting stories.

I'd say it did take a little while to find its feet but it's a very charming show.
Do you like singing and crying? Watch it then

I notice you don't specify if he'd be watching those things or doing them, but I guess the answer is yes to both anyway, so...
On the adjacent topic of Adventure Time, I've found that after season six went off the rails a bit with weird existentialism near the end, season seven has been very solid. Probably some of the best episodes since season four (which was probably my vote for strongest overall).

What the crap is up with Netflix and why doesn't it offer most things? I was promised a nigh-omnipotent video streaming service, and all I got was Netflix.
I've also been seeing subway ads for Rick and Morty. Is it anything like Bojack Horseface? |

Bojack is probably closer related to the Venture Brothers since they are both shows about the lasting effects of failure.
Rick and Morty is a comedic adventure a day sci fi thing that in the long run explores the idea of morality and our place in the universe.
