Default Insanity Quest, Discussion Thread 6

I put this up because I couldn't find the old thread on the last 3 pages, and I had something to discuss.

I've got a good idea for how to turn this thread into a pseudo-battle RP, or at least something with a more meaningful plotline. There's a reason behind it too, but I might have to do a few things you might not like. I'd really not like to reveal what I'm trying to do until it happens, as it would need to be more of a suprise than the old "Oh. you've been stalking us from several hundred meters away in a territory you are familiar with and we're new here. But we all saw you."

Yeah. that. and none of that, "But I had Mordenkhainen's spacial watchdog cast! I knew XMysteryplothookX"

Anyways, look for some strangeness to be happening. For example, we might get into a fight with something we just can't beat down here in the underdark, and certain cover-blowing actions might need to be taken.

Well, I generally try to take account of what another person has done for what I do. Its usually best to lead up to some of your mysterious actions. Its really good when you can weave in some things from other peoples' posts.

I'm busily trying to set the stage for an archplot. Its a fairly conventional one of the defeat evil diety pattern but I'm sure what we'll do will make it a bit more unconventional. We're not the most heroic party to have ever existed. I'm happily seeding some back events that specifically involve Mercury. Motivation can be very important. I'm moving towards seting up an encounter with some of the minions of this dark god. An overpowering encounter.

So, as you can see, you're not the only one working towards a more meaningful plot line.

Defeat the evil deity, when some of us are busy joining forces with it? Sheer madness!

Aeryn's backstory will come clear eventually, but I'm not going to insist on having everything revolve around him. We just get to do some cool stuff in a drow city eventually.

Just saying Phoenix, but that spell Mercury cast wasn't a bansihment spell. It is simply a spell to entangle a person. Why would he use a banishment spell after specifically going to the trouble to place a dimensional anchor? Spell resistance wouldn't work against it either. If it would then by that logic a creature with spell resistance could walk through a wall of force. It seems a little strange that you'd be effortlessly resisting spells when just minutes ago you were coughing up blood and severely wounded.

How the HELL was Will there!?

Look, is it so impossible to ask for people NOT to interfere in there subplots?

*to Phoenix* I told you this would happen...

[edit] Arha, don't be ridiculous. A Wall of Force isn't affected by SR because it isn't cast on a person, it's cast in empty air and can then BLOCK a creature that tries to pass through. She gets her saving throw. On a side note, you keep forgetting the fact that you are probably the weakest spellcaster in the party, besides Will, due to the huge Level Adjustment you get from being a Quicksilver Dragon. If you were a Wyrmling, it might be fairly small...but you seem to be full grown, in which case you could barely approach the spell levels that Aeryn and Myrra use. That is why Za'rel was able to throw off your spell so easily, and she was just healed from the wounds she took during the battle with Aeryn.

Za'rel is a different matter, but most of the magic she uses is innate...spell-like abilities that any Marilith possesses.

Once again (and hopefully for the final time), this ain't D&D. Healing takes time, quaffing a healing potion doesn't mean you're suddenly, miraculously all better. The logic behind resistance to spells not applying is that it creates physical bonds from magic and entangles you in them. I know that in theory you could argue this applies to fireballs too, but the logic behind spell resistance has always been a little fuzzy.

Now, there's quite simple logic behind this fight. You are being faced against two opponents of equal power, who are more than prepared for you, who have opened up with the first strike, who aren't tired and attacked while you were in the middle of talking. It's almost imposssible for you to win. You should note that the spells being used are actually capture ones.

((DB, he disjoined our items first. It matters not, as Chorzite makes a good non-magical anti-magic field in and of itself.))

Not a banishment spell, you tried to bind an outsider. This is inherantly dangerous, and can easily be broken by most of the higher ranks of deamons. Besides, don't ya think she's had that happen before?

SR, like Armor, dosen't diminish with wounds. That's not even a DnD rule.

Granted, I'm not instantly healed. But being the only fighter in the entire group, one might reckon I'm a quite definately harder to wound/kill/fatiuge than your average mage, right? I mean, you can just teleport away from everything I do anyway, does it really matter if i break a bond? My character has probably taken the most damage in this entire RP, so don't accuse me of godmoding.

((Surrender? In our moment of triumph? I think you underestimate their chances!))

Really Arhra, We wouldn't be roleplaying our characters if we submitted to being captured.

Oh...so this is some campaign setting in which you, Arha, can just decide which rules apply and which don't? We also seem to be using a lot of DnD style spells and monsters, so you might want to take that into consideration. It's her character, and she can decide whether it is healed or not. Of course, I could just embarass you by dispelling your physical bonds, but like you said...it's fuzzy, much like the logic you keep using.

The logic behind this fight is indeed very simple. You somehow "magically" detected our plans, and plan on godmoding your way to victory. Sorry, but that isn't going to happen. You godmode, you lose...much like drinking and driving. You attacked two freshly-healed opponents, both packing more magic items than you (which are now working again). One is a melee-type demon whose spell-like abilities are mostly useable whenever she wants them to. The other is a Wizard with levels of Archmage, who just eliminated all your protections and rendered your items worthless. Other than that, he used very few spells (perhaps 4-5) over the course of his fight with Viska.

You lose, and frankly you would have to be some sort of idiot to attack an opponent that way.

I never said I was fully healed, but I have polymorphed, taken a healing potion, and, shuch removing the disintegration effect, allows my enhanced metabolism to regenerate me at an alarming rate. (Nothing like a troll, but more like 1 hp/round) Certainly not seriously, but I could say I'm around, oh, 50%?

Likewise... DB, chill. Arhra, you chill too, m'kay? If Mercury uses his all seeing eyeballs to find us, certainly. I didn't ward agaisnt scrying, because I couldn't. Of course, being a cunning little deamon, I'd have a contingency. (see chorzite dust) Anyway. All magical items are disabled, Aeryn cant blow the dust around by magical means, my swords are AWOL in my bag of holding, the AM-field wouldn't allow summoning or dismissal, and all wards fail. That puts a Dragon-mage, an Unarmed Marilith, a Human? Mage, and a Half-Drow Archmage, all in a chaotic situation. It's pretty balanced, and still in your favor, mind you. But I do suggest we talk, Rushing in with guns blazing into a secret meeting isn't a good idea.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I've got a handful of Dretches. about 6. Nothing major, but a fodder-screen is still a fodder-screen.

Phoenix....I don't see exactly why you decided I can't cast spells. I know you want an all-melee battle, but you can't spread Chorzite dust over an entire room that way.

If necessary, you hold them off while I walk into an un-chorzited corner and brush the stuff from my robes, after which I will dispell the antimagic field and Nuke Mercury until he resembles a puddle of sticky goo.
