Default Video Game Violence - Info Desperately Needed!

Alright, for school I need to make a persuasive report that violence in video games isn't really that bad. Even though there are reports of people hurting themselves by copying what they've seen in video games, it's simply because they couldn't handle it.

But, that's just my opinion.

If anyone has any hard facts they'd like to share, I'd praise you for them.

Heh, I have to do that exact same thing for a class in college, only it's a speech. I wrote an article for my school paper on this topic that was actually pretty informative. Here's the link: http://forums.nuklearpower.com/showthread.php?t=555

Anything involving the fact violence was presented in the media since the radio when you heard the man get shot and imagined the rest for yourself, video games is only slightly different since you have some input into what goes on, and as far as resources I'd say Tim Buckley's (Ctrl-Alt-Del maker) interview on CBS was a pretty good source. He makes a very valid point on parental influence on their children, if parents buy kids their own copy of GTA then it validates the idea of violence for the child. Parents need to be less involved with themselves and more intuned into their children and what their children are doing.

You can also look into the opposing view of Jack Thompson which reads as laughable propaganda. Its idiots like him that make me think I could pass the bar.

Use anything around Violence. Anime/cartoons, DVD/Movies what ever.

I would go for GTA as your bad game and something that is M thats not bad [like Halo. its rated M. not much blood. Killing "monsters"] Then drop down or find any T rated games that could be worse than GTA [ya right] Study that THEN find answers to those problems.

I think of it like a little kid. Little kid think jumping down 5 feet is cool and risky. A kid dose not know any better. The case is Video Games are Entertainment. They are not teaching tools used to brain wash you [battlezone tank game is for goverment war training thats an other story.]

I would even check some websites of nintendo sony or the people who made GTA for any violence data...OH and Mortal Kombat was the game that made people need rateings of E/T/M ect. So...maybe look into that as well.

i did the same topic for my persuasive speech last year and ill be doing it again this year (i didnt fail english just doing persuasive speeches again). and pretty much its easy to say that video game violence does NOT contribute to actual violence in people who FOLLOW the ESRB ratings for games.

if you want to place the blame on someone then place it on the parents who are buying games like GTA for their kids who dont meet the qualifications of the ESRB to be playing games like GTA. like i was at a gamestop about 5 months ago and a woman came in with an 8 year old child (maybe even younger) and the kid went strait for GTA:Vice City. the mom was about to buy that when the store clerk asked her if she was buying it for her son currently present and she said yes. the clerk told her whats in the game and the mom just threw the game aside in an instant.

people absolutely need to be informed that these ratings EXIST and that their there for a REASON. thats my advice to ya.

Yeah, I know all about that stuff. I just needed some hard facts, since Mr. Frangut doesn't like too many opinions. He said that opinion would have worked if it was a High School class, but it doesn't cut it in college.

The Bastard.
