FMA... for kids?

Hmmm... Let me think back on what happens in this series...
Serial killings, orphans losing limbs because they tried to bring their mom back, bloody murder, a man turning his daughter into a horrible abomination to keep his job, more murder, revenge, further murder, that thing that Gluttony turns into, that thing that Envy turns into, that thing that Pride is... oh, and more murder.

Yeah. for kids!

I think they toned down the anime a bit, like Gluttony exploding was much less graphic in this anime than the manga if I remember correctly, less detailed guts and bones and so forth. But it's only really toned down as much as Japan tones stuff down. They're much more tolerant of violence and so forth in their prime time television than the U.S. is. So to say that FMA is a kids' show would be inaccurate but it's entirely possible that lots of kids watch it and its in more of a family-friendly time slot in Japan I believe. Or at least the first series was on at like 6:30 at night, not 1 in the morning.

I heard somewhere the the original FMA anime was targeted towards teenage girls because of the bishounen-looking main male character, but then since it was adapted from a shonen manga with a focus on lots of fighting and so forth it also attracted a strong male audience. For Japanese TV I'd say it's a fairly broad spectrum show. It's not really sophisticated to appeal to adults but it's not entirely stupid either. It's just entertaining.

anime is always less graphic then manga. Stuff is often cut, and on varying degrees. You will never see detailed gore in a shonen anime. Shonen manga, sure all the time. Gohan's fight with the Cell Jrs is the biggest example I know of

Anime: punches them, they turn to dust
Manga: punches them, their brain is blasted out of the other side of their skulls

Regarding the current anime episode (episode 47): I really have no idea how they're going to fit 20 chapters of material into, what, five episodes? If they're still aiming for the 52 episode cut-off.

No stupid movie, please. Add an extra season, please, BONES.

Man, you're hoping this will be resolved without a movie? Fat chance. Everything is movies these days; Gundam 00, Eden of the East, Nanoha. Besides, they've already shown willingness to do a FMA movie after the series.

Be fair, the wait would suck, but the movie itself would be awesome. Last 20 chapters with high(er) budget? Yes please.

It's really the wait that gets me, and the idea that an anime should be ended with a movie instead of just more episodes. Plus the first FMA movie was kind of an add-on, even if it was extremely needed for closure, technically the anime has an "ending". I'm not sure what they could do for this series "ending", so it would basically be just a straight-up cliffhanger and then a long-ass wait for a movie. Besides which, I'm not even sure if five more episodes and a two-hour movie (the equivalent of four episodes) would be enough to cover everything. Specific fights and character deaths can't exactly be excised and there's like, a dozen left that we know of.

I'm presuming they cut off point would be when the fight for Central actually gets under way, but it's so long at this point I'm not sure it could be covered in two hours.

Plus the manga still hasn't been completed (seriously don't know why they didn't wait another year before creating this new anime, since incompleteness was what doomed the first one to WTFness).

The first one was perfectly fine as it's own thing, I don't feel it was incomplete, to me, it ended where it was supposed to.

It's possible the rest will be covered in a series of OVAs/Movies If they do stick with that deadly line.

Japanese studios usually never were fond of longer runners when it came to anime.

Ok, I have only watched the first episode of FMA: BH so far, but I'm confused. Have they retconned a few things? Particularly the part where I am pretty sure they knew Hughes before Armstong. I mean, they delivered Hughes' baby (or, were present when it happened).

Yeah, no that was only in the first anime.

In the manga they helped deliver a baby in Rush Valley.
