Because I think on the universal scale of things, level >21 liches are inferior to gods. Even goblin gods. I might be wrong, of course. |

Though Dark One would completely destroy him, as, you know, god.

Problem is, if Tsukiko figures it out, Xykon will know long before the Dark One can overtly help Redcloak. The Dark One can't directly intercede or this comic would already be over, he needs the Snarl harnessed so he doesn't have to fight the 3 big Pantheons. If Xykon finds out what Redcloak has planned too early....

And if he finds out that the ritual has nothing in it about controlling the Snarl itself, only about choosing where the portals to its prison open, that cannot turn out well, because he signed on for this explicitly for "control the Snarl".

Making it happen.

If that's what he signed on for to begin with, wouldn't Redcloak have had some sort of plan to deal with Xykon when the time finally came?

Look at how well that's going for him now.
And it's been what... 60+ years since they met? |

So we are clear

Well even controlling the gates helps, rip open a hole in an enemy camp and watch the incomprihencible horror shred his enemies souls. It would be like a nuke. If you just want it gone, it still works
Besides Xykon is an idiot if he thinks Redcloak is in any way loyal. I think I said it before. They have an arrangement, and only stick with it as long as it furthers their own plans. Redcloak knows the moment they aren't needed Xykon will waste them with inpunity. Likewise Xykon knows that Redcloak only stays with him because he's high level, and knows where the portals are. If Redcloak ever has a way around these problems he'll turn on Xykon without a second thought and he knows it

Let's not also forget that the rip in the hole has a planet inside. Should Xykon or Redcloak ever see that...

As for Redcloak having plans for Xykon...
Well, he started this when Xykon was just a regular, albeit quite powerful, human sorcerer. Ever since Xykon became a lich, the balance of power has shifted entirely to him. Redcloak thought that having his phylactery would give him leverage. Big mistake. I have no clue, really, how he's going to deal with this when the time comes. Perhaps he misrepresents the time the ritual takes, so that the godly negotiations will be over by the time he realizes something's up? I don't know. But it will not end well for him if Xykon finds out the truth prematurely. |
