Correction!
I think you mean a "VAVE" - that's how all the cool kids and art critics are saying it!

I don't know if they're youtube or netflix, but if you can find them, check out Buster Keaton's The Playhouse, Sherlock Jr., The Boat or The Balloonatic. Buster Keaton was an absolute genius who wrote all his own material, did all his own stunts, owned his own studio, and created stunts and visual gags that are still being stolen by cartoons and visual comedians today. His silent films are still hilarious after all these years, and the technical aspects are absolutely stunning given the level of technology that was available at the time. (Especially considering that most modern stunt actor safety equipment hadn't been invented yet, and that all film editing had to be done with a pair of scissors and a bottle of glue.) Keaton beats Charlie Chaplin, hands down.
Books: I just finished Cyrano de Bergerac and I highly recommend it. It's smart, funny, and yet ends on a painful note. While some of the characters are a bit stockpile, they're all likeable. Plus it features a duel in which Cyrano simultaneously beats the crap out of a dude and makes up an insulting theme song for the fight. The Count of Monte Cristo is fantastic too, although it constantly makes you wonder whether Monte Cristo is the most awesome guy in the world or a complete asshole.
