They seem to be too specific to be premade by someone else. All in all they're a really nice touch.

Hey, thanks for the link, I'll take a look at it.

Also, yes, I did those animations myself. That last one took a huge chunk out of my time to make, but I figured you'd like something like that.

Y'know, I'm starting to realize how much of a big hassle running a Let's Play is. It takes a lot of time and dedication out of your own time just to entertain the masses that will probably never do anything for you in return, and it really doesn't make you a better person. In fact, it can make you an even WORSE person, because that time spent on doing a Let's Play could be spent on studying, exercising, or pretty much ANYTHING other than on a pointless attempt at being known on the Internet.

But you people demanded it be so, and so it shall be.

<Alright, so let's get started! First thing that's going to happen is... is...>

?

<Huh. Truthfully, I've quite forgotten what has happened up to this point. Most likely because it's taken a month for this update to come out. ANYWAY! Let's check back a few pages to see what we did dutdutdutdutdutdutdutdut okay here we go.>

<This is Vermilion City, right? Yes, it does seem so. Ooh! Hey Comast, how about you take a nice break for being such a valuable member of our team?>

<Uh, I am? Wow, bud, I didn't even know I was. But really, I don't think I'll be taking a break right now, not when there's more->

<Well, we really don't have a choice in that matter, don't we? Sorry kid, the master makes the rules here.>

Remember how I said that this cat was going to be our moneymaker? Well, I'm going to show you why.

Right after we fast-forward through several hours of TRAINING

Alright, done.

Here's our team's stats now. Also, new moves: Dammit gets Disable, Bard traded in Growl for Rage, Shepard could have learned Focus Energy (but didn't due to that move being bugged in this game), Five gets Dragon Rage, and most importantly...

We now have Pay Day. (Also Blingcat dropped Growl for Screech, because dealing damage is more important for Blingcat than taking damage. And Screech IS awesome, by the way--it's pretty much the same as using two Tail Whips twice, but in one turn.)

At the end of battle, you gain money equal to double the level of the Pokemon that used Pay Day for each time it is used. This applies to any battle, whether it be in a trainer battle or against a wild Pokemon (and this is in addition to the prize money you get from trainer battles).

Now let's go and see what S.S. Anne is all about.

Uh-huh. Yes, very interesting. Moving on.

Outta my way.

<Huh. That ship seems... much smaller up close.>

<WHOA WHAT THE HELL! Small ship outside... big ship inside... this is a huge-ass joke of Palkia's design, isn't it?>

Yeah, but I think he's busy with Asshat or something. You can try calling his number next month or so.

Including myself?

It's funny because our character never says anything in the game.

Well, these rooms look inviting, so let's go in shall we?

Doesn't anyone around here keep their door locked?

And that makes yours better because...?

Y'know, I'm getting really tired of having to show everything I do in every trainer battle, and it really doesn't add to this Let's Play very much, especially since trainer battles are getting more increasingly frequent as we go through this game. So, I'm going to skim through all the unimportant trainer matches and give you the details on the more interesting ones.

This is not one of them. Seriously, a Pidgey? You can find those birds anywhere!

These are ALL you got from around the world?

For simplicity, assume that I used Pay Day on everything.

Jeebus, you could have gotten something a lot better, like a Natu, or a Trapinch. I like Trapinch. Those things are adorable.

<Ooh, how should I put this... oh yes, how about [anthrax] YOU, you snobbish [marigold]!>

Shut up.

In the words of Calvin Coolidge: **** you You lose.

Um no.

...Aaaaaaannnnnnnnnnd? Are you going to follow up on that?

Body Slam, a great damage move with the added bonus of having 30% chance to paralyze.

Let's check the next room.

It's fun to break into places that clearly should have been locked.

He had a level 19 Nidoran male and female. Sad.

But hey, more experience!

Also, money. And oh boy, gentlemen give out a LOT of cash.

Okay, jeez, sorry. You could have said so instead of, y'know, instigating a Pokemon battle.

You can leave the S.S. Anne at any time to do other things. The ship won't sail until you get HM01 from the captain.

Sounds like something I've heard before...

This guy has two Growlithes. They're high on the Attack and Speed and average in everything else.

Oh, and they also get Roar, which is useless in this game because it doesn't do anything in a trainer battle, unlike in the later games where it forces the target to switch to a random Pokemon in their team.

Um... can we consider this to be borderline creepy?

<Yes. Yes we can.>

Now let's see what's down the left corridor.

Oh hey, a kitchen.

Oooooh, items!

I guess this is the ball he was talking about.
Great Balls work like Poke Balls, except that they have a 1.5x catch rate modifier (that's 150% of the normal catch rate).

Why is it that a lot of these guys have to talk in fake French?

Interestingly, if you talk to him on the side, he says something slightly different.

Now, let's see what's downstairs.

A corridor full of more rooms.

Predictably, they're all unlocked.

Max Potions are rare items, and where they aren't rare they're usually expensive. They restore all HP to one Pokemon. Considering that this is a HUGE step up from Hyper Potions (which restore 200 HP), these things should only be used for high-level Pokemon with more than 400 HP.

Door #2!

Two random sailors.

Is this a joke? Because the punchline is non-existent.

A single Shellder. Work out the outcome yourself.

It's fun using Pay Day on defensive Pokemon because you get more money out of it.

Gofur doesn't say anything, so we'll never know.

Implying that sailors believe in such a thing as sailor's pride.

So, what are we up against? Well, he's got...

A Horsea...

A Shellder...

And a Tentacool. The Zubats of the sea.

Also, man these fights are worth a pretty good amount of EXP.

It's funny how all these stupid quips are not funny.

And now Blingcat can enjoy all the benefits of evolution, which of course means increased stats all around.

<HEY EVERYBODY! GUESS WHO'S STILL NOT->

<Shaddup.>

No. I mean yes.

Hmm hmm

Because every attack except Struggle uses this game's equivalent of MP, having items that restore them are always helpful.

<Okay, slightly more creepy than the last one. Was Nob/Douglas Dinsdale trying to sneak some adult humor in or was he forced to write these things at gunpoint?>

All of his Pokemon are Horseas. Seriously, this is quickly getting to a new level of repetitiveness. Have I said that already?

Blingcat's new and improved stats made this battle even more of a breeze than it already is.

<Well, obviously! Does this game assume that we have the memory of a 4-year old?>

Next!

Um, I could have figured that out myself on account of EVERYONE IN THIS WORLD HAS A POKEMON.

A Tentacool, followed by a Staryu.

Stupidly, I run out of PP for Pay Day prematurely in this battle.

So I just resorted to using normal attacks for the rest of the fight.

Also, Bite is a massive powerhouse of a move for this particular point in the game. It instantly felled this Staryu at full health.

Overleveling your Pokemon helps, especially since Diglett Cave is readily accessible and Gyarados is immune to their most dangerous move.

Yes, I can tell from the fact that all the Pokemon you use are ones that you can get from fishing or surfing.

I'm sure you know how useful/aggravating a move Rest is.

Note that I'm only showing you the rooms that have either valuable items or people to fight. This will be the last one down here.

Haven't we heard that one before?

OH HOLY GOD WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOUR FACE

<Agh, jeebus! That face looks like it got run over by a jackhammer and his eyes got misaligned and his jaw dislocated or something!>

Pay Day on Tentacool, Pay Day on Staryu...

Oh hey a level up.

And finally, Pay Day on Shellder.

<I JUST WANT TO GET AWAY FROM THAT FACE>

Just assume that Gofur is too repulsed by HIS FACE to respond. Because that's what I'm doing.

Which I'm not.

Welp, another Water Pokemon that we're going to have to-

Oh hey, something different for once. Though, we've seen Machop before.

I should like to point out that using Pay Day any chance you get really adds up in this game.

That's nice. We ignore you now.

You serious? Hold on a sec.

I'm pretty sure we'll be using those TMs and that Moon Stone at some point, but not right now.

NOW we can get that Hyper Potion.

Well, that's it for the downstairs area. Now let's go upstairs.

There's stairs in our way. LET'S GO UP THEM

THIS IS A GIANT HINT I HOPE YOU ARE PAYING ATTENTION

Well that was pointless. Moving on then.

Ohohoho, that's silly, you can't ever get seasick unless the plot tells you to.

This guy carries a Machop and a Tentacool, both of which are annoying for different reasons.

Due to the buggy nature of this game, Karate Chop and other similar moves that have an increased critical rate are pretty much guaranteed critical hits. Also, in this game critical hits do straight-up double damage, regardless of attack and defense modifiers.

I don't need to tell you why Tentacool is annoying.

<Gimme your money. Heh, I always wanted to try saying that.>

Well, technically, we're still at 493 Pokemon. Although, expect hundreds of new ones to be "discovered" in the future.

If by "jig" you mean "use my Pokemon to beat up my Pokemon so I can have a barely legitimate excuse to take your money", than sure.

Machop again...

Followed by Shellder. Again.

Bah.

Well, I'm pretty sure that if you search on the Internet, you'll find out exactly how many there are.

Alright, that's it for the top deck (aside from minor NPCs that don't have anything useful to say), so let's go explore the last few parts of the ship.

That's not quite as impressive as I'd hoped. Mostly because 1) anybody who knows about Pokemon already knows about Snorlax, and 2) it's not quite as awesome as a lot of other Pokemon we currently have now.

<I'd just like to interrupt to tell you about Slaking. Those guys are so badass that they intentionally wait out every other turn just to give the opponent a fighting chance.>

Okay, so moving on.

<IT'S THE FACE AGAIN OH GOD OH GOD>

He had two Goldeens and a Tentacool just to annoy us.

But because Blingcat gets a level on the first one...

One Pay Day is enough to take out that Tentacool.

Oh, and this would be a situation in which getting a critical hit is bad, because that means less uses of Pay Day needed, which means less money.

<JUST GET THAT FACE AWAY FROM ME>

Wait, there was one? Because all I saw were mostly people standing around in their rooms not doing anything.

Crushing people's hopes and dreams just for money keeps ME youthful.

Okay what

Seriously. He had just that Pikachu on him. What, is he taking that youthfulness thing seriously?

No, I'd still beat you up. God, adults are idiots in this game.

As you may have guessed, this is the Ether counterpart of the Max Potion. Both the Ethers and the Max Ethers are especially rare, as you can't buy them in stores. So, guess how often we'll be using these!

How about an effective Pokemon?

Another Growlithe, nothing spectacular, we've seen them before.

Oh, and we have another new one. Ponyta has that same focus on Attack and Speed like Growlithe, except that Speed is only marginally higher than Attack and HP and Defense are both less than what Growlithe has. Also, Ponyta gets Fire Spin.

They still aren't all that threatening at this point.

I prefer Pokemon that can kick your ass.

Another Rare Candy that we're never going to use. How silly we are.

We never did find out where the party is.

She uses a Rattata and a Pikachu.

They were both promptly Pay Day'd.

<No. We are not using that overused Touhou meme. EVER.>

Good for you. We're leaving.

The Safari Zone, huh? Gonna take a look at it once we have the time.

And to show how excited he is about it, he has to end his sentence with double exclamation points.

Well I guess that's all there is here, so the captain should be just up ahead.

Blah blah blah we don't need to hear any of this useless banter.

Oh hey look, he's got a new sprite now.

And of course, he opens up the match with a Pidgeotto.

Welp, let's just keep spamming that Pay Day.

Obviously, Blingcat is the one who gains the most levels in this update.

Hey look, he finally evolved that Rattata.

Pay Day all the way.

Oh, and he also evolved that useless Abra into a more useful Kadabra.

A BATTLE OF THE MINDS

Disable prevents the opponent from using a randomly-selected move for a few turns. It's somewhat handy, but it'll eventually get replaced by better moves.

We get lucky and block the move he was going to use from being used.

With his only attack disabled, that leaves us free to pummel him with our own attacks.

Well, ain't that ironic. (Not really, I expected something like that to happen)

As long as his one attacking move is disabled, we can't get hit.

And that's why having more than one attack on a Pokemon more suited for attacking is always good.

Well, that wraps up his Kadabra.

Really, is this even a big surprise to you?

...

...

...

...

<Well, c'mon!>

<What?>

<Aren't you going to... y'know, laugh at how ridiculous my name is?>

<Oh that. Yeah. Well, um, I got over that.>

<...You're serious.>

<Yep.>

...

...

...

<So, whatcha been doing?>

<Oh, oh, um, well, I've been... going all over the place, seeing the sights, meeting new friends, and recently I've been traumatized by THE FACE THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN. Yourself?>

<Ah, well, same thing, except for that, um, face part. Oh, and also I've been TRAINING HARD SO THAT I CAN FINALLY DEFEAT YOU ONCE AND FOR ALL. Y'know, that sort of stuff.>

<Okay then.>

<Yeah.>

<So, I suppose we should get started then.>

<I guess we should. It's gotta start sometime.>

<Right, so shall I make the first move on you then?>

<Hey, sure.>

<Oh and by the way, I've learned a trick from you. One that I'm gonna use against you.>

<Which is?>

<Repeatedly hurting you again and again.>

<Ah! Not bad, old friend.>

<I'm just going to keep on doing the same thing I did before.>

<Well, try to catch up, friend, because you're at a disadvantage now.>

<Just a little bit more...>

<And now I attack you!>

<Ugh! That was a very good hit there.>

<But it will take more than that to defeat me.>

<You're right, it will take two.>

<Agh! And now I am defeated.>

<And that's how I beat my best friend. Again.>

...

<That is a very good story, Bard-kun! I like how everyone was happy in the end!>

<Your story was full of crap! That wasn't how it went at all!>

<Well, okay, I guess it wasn't quite as polite as how I described it... it was more of a "I'll beat you" and "I'll beat you first" sort of thing.>

<No, no, what I remember was you TOTALLY LOST, you retard!>

<Stop trolling, jerk. What I saw was that I beat him, that's all that matters. Now if you excuse me, I'm going to lay down for a while. Man, who knew ordinary bubbles could hurt so much?>

Idiot.

Up the stairs is the captain's room.

Looks like he was a victim of the plot.

By doing this simple, innocent act, Gofur brought a whole avalanche of unintended implications upon him.

Thank you, now we'll be on our way.

Ah, so it looks like the only thing that was preventing the ship from taking off was the captain's seasickness.

Well, unless there's any items or trainers I missed, it's time to head off.

Gokigen yo, S.S. Anne.

So what now? Thoroughly destroy the Vermilion Gym before moving on, or explore more of the world and see how far we can get with what we have now?

<Can... can somebody flip me over? I, I seem to be stuck... argh... ungh... yep, still stuck...>

Good update, but you forgot to look in the Captains trash can! (While there's nothing important in there, I just enjoy having my characters look at a pile of puke). I say for the Gym, it'll be fun.

You forgot the obligatory scene where Gofer admits that he's pregnant and Lt. Surge is the father.

Anyways, can't wait!
