I'd also accept, 23, getting out of college, and onto the family/work part of life. Not saying it would be better, or even good just, it would also make sense

Fun Fact, this was on list of "horrible things you never want to see the light of day". granted it was a general "live action adaptation" so eventually something would. But its only been a month

"I wish I never have to grow up and lose you two."

Wish creates the paradox world, just like Timmy already had to stop Vicky in Channel chasers to change the future. Making this wish screwed with things, and the end of this feature-length farce will probably end with the typical "I wish I never made that wish" time will re-write itself and it'll end with em hookin' up. Bam, movie.

It was established awhile ago that its mental age not physical that decides when you lose them. Back when he wished himself as an adult it was his regression to mindset of a child that allowed him to wish himself back, and later he wished for merely "the body of an 18 year old" and retained full access to his fairies.

But this is a live action movie so I doubt they'd actually give a reason
