Yes similarly aged forum members. I too watched and enjoyed the same cartoons you did.

(Who else is slightly scared that they can legally play the Ducktails drinking game?)

Ultimate proof you are growing up. The moment you realize taking a high dive into a vault of gold coins would probably kill you

It may be proof of growing up, but it's still a sign of immaturity that the lot of us are still willing to take that risk.

Woah, woah, woah, woah... woah!

Wait, wait, wait. You mean there's someone somewhere out there who's seen the show, who doesn't want to try it?*

Woah!

Also, on a slightly related note, the entire line-up the the Disney Afternoon Block Party was really quite amazing. Gummi Bears paved the way for Ducktails which paved the way for Dark Wing Duck, which paved the way for the (ever so slight a step back) Tailspin, which paved the way for Gargoyles, which might have been my defining childhood show* (aside from David the Gnome; Dragon Ball, not Z; and Batman [later renamed the Animated Series]). Regardless, Ducktails is certainly on my all-time top shows. Certainly it was one of the most influential. And the comics had me convinced that one could actually smell gold, and grow trees out of the stuff (all done with the same story, actually!).

Also, what eventually happened to Huey, Dewy, and Lewie? I mean, I don't recall why they left their Unca' Donald and ended up with Uncle Scrooge in the first place. I believe their parents sent them to Donald at one point, for some reason explained in a brief note (if I remember the really old cartoon canon correctly, which I might not). But I don't recall why they came to Scrooge.

Also, it was quite touching, and bizarrely telling when Scrooge, affected by a love arrow, chose his romantic love over money, and his nephews over his own romantic happiness. That... sheds some serious light on the things he finds important.

*Slightly off-topic, I read a comic graphic novel recently that actually referenced this. It was about a wealthy frog who wished for a pool of gold large enough that he could dive in without hurting his nose. I believe the thing was called the Eternal Smile, or some such. Anyway, it's a big yellow thing, and is quite good. I'd give it a read at some point.

Proof of really growing up is you'd pass up the chance to gank his dime.

memory is fuzzy, but Donald did send them to live there. For some reason he couldn't take care of them anymore.

Donald joined the Navy and got shipped out to sea for an extended tour, but obviously couldn't take the boys with him and had no one else for them to stay with (Daisy was kind of a bitch anyway). So he just threw them at rich old Uncle Scrooge and took the fuck off.

For some reason they ended up living with Donald again in the VERY poorly concieved 'Quack Pack' show that made no reference whatsoever to Scrooge and then also the entire population of Duckburg besides them was turned human.

On the Donald in the Navy thing - my favorite B character was Donald's commanding officer. He had a cool sort of enraged John Wayne thing goin' on.

EDIT: Admiral Grimitz.

I love how Huey, Dewey and Louie are absolute hell-spawn in the original Donald Duck cartoons, going out of their way to cause their Uncle Donald physical and emotional harm, yet by Duck Tales the trio are just good-natured adventurous scamps. Oh silly Disney.

Personally I liked Talespin and Rescue Rangers better than DuckTales, but Darkwing Duck was always a favorite of mine. He's the terror that flaps in the night!!

And I remember watching Mighty Ducks too. In retrospect it was a pretty horrible concept, but I liked the show. I liked Tanya and Duke best.
