Could you two take this outside? I mean, while I enjoy Fifth's sardonic nature, Premmy you're winding him up a bit too much & seem to be taking him a bit too seriously.

Which is always a mistake, IMO.

Anyway, you guys are kinda ruining the whole nature of this thread & having ppl give their reactions to these new shows. Not that there's much of that going on, but I'm an optimist occasionally.

Besides, maybe Fifth is a Marvel guy. I'll try to link some YouTubes of Disney's new Marvel show later.

This brightened my day because of it's relevance to an earlier discussion here.

That being said, the one thing I noticed and sorta interested me about Young Justice was that the Justice League as a whole seem to be a bunch of total dicks and I've never really seen Superman as the kind of guy who would go all "deer in headlights" and make up some lame excuse about villainy and fly away just to abandon what, for all intents and purposes, is his child. Actually, a lot of the very uncomfortable interactions at the end between Superboy and Superman lead me to think that the whole abandonment dynamic they've got going on may be a story driver later on.

I really love superboy's intensity followed by his sad-puppyness.

YOU WANT ESCAPE?! *HULKSMASH*
Superman can fly, why can't I fly?

It really had nothing to do with his opinion on the cartoon.

Young Justice had some characterization, in that each of the characters seemed like a stereotype or an archetype. Aqualad is the thoughtful one, Robin is a loner, Speedy is hotheaded, etc. It'll probably be like Justice League where after a while they start to focus in on one or two in an episode instead of all of them.

I mean, did the first episode of Justice League have great characterization? Not really, they got together and fought some aliens. And yet it was a great cartoon.

I thought they were mutants/science experiments gone funky. Sure, they had the demon motiff, but that doesn't imply anything.

He's referring to the episode of Justice League where they got together to fight aliens.

Yeah, the first two episodes of Justice League was a two-parter where they fight Martians. This introduces the Martian Manhunter. There really wasn't a lot of characterization made, nor was there a lot of characterization to be made, as most of the public is fairly well aware of what Batman or Superman or Wonderwoman is like. Anything else one could garner from their personalities as delivered via dialogue (Flash is cocky and slightly stupid, for instance).

However they later did stuff with each of the characters in particular episodes which developed them or delved into their past/personalities. Like at least one episode had this villain attach a parasite to each hero which filled their minds with a wondrous fantasy which kept them enthralled, which gave us insight into their deepest desires, which are fairly obvious but were delivered in interesting ways (for example, Batman's fantasy was to see his father beat the shit out of Joe Chill for all eternity in Crime Alley instead of getting shot as a boy, etc.). They did a lot of other stuff like this for individual heroes and focused on one or two.

So I wouldn't knock Young Justice for it's first episode where they are just trying to introduce us to all the characters, who will later be developed in more interesting ways.

Unless Fifth didn't like Justice League, so this opinion wouldn't really be valid (but if he didn't like Justice League, will anything please him?). He could be totally right and they'll never do anything good with Young Justice, of course. But I'd say give it a few more episodes.

EDIT: I am totally unaware if Paul Dini or Bruce Timm or whoever is involved with this new series, though, so there could be some question as to the writers' ability to make the show better.

Greg Weisman who did Gargoyles and Spectacular Spider-man is on this show as head writer.

Hmm, does this mean Speedy will eventually adopt the name of a New York City landmark or geographical feature as opposed to "The Red Arrow"?
