Tech Support PSP to PC - Sound Problems

god damnit...

Guys, i could use some brainstorming over here... i'm trying to put my PSP to display on my PC Screen, using the Homebrew app Remotejoy (version 0.20a) so far so good. I Can get perfect image, steady framerate and even record it. Not a single problem.

Sound on the other hand, is being a pain in the ass.

You see, the latest version of remote Joy allows you to record audio from your PSP in Wav Format. I just need to plug my PSP to my Microphone input in the PC... and it's done. But as soon as i turn the PSP to do it i get a LOT of Hissing, Poping and cracling in the audio. I fiddle around with the configs, sometimes i get a clear sound, sometimes i reeeeeeeeeally don't.

It seems i can't get a stable resulto to work with. Sound is usually pretty bad. Audiable but really low quality at best.

So, shoot a few ideas my way to see if i can beat this...

My PC has Windows 7 64x, all updates are ok.

My audiocard is Onboard and it's Realtek High Definition Audio. Windows tells me my Drive is 6.0 from 2009, so right now i'm downloading the latest drive from 2011 from their website. But i have no idea if it will do any good.

Other than that, any clues of what i can do about it? I'm connecting the Audio from my PSP to my PC via a Male/Male 2.5mm cable and this streaming seems to be apart from the Video streaming. Like, 2 unreleated processes (because, sometimes i could get Audio and No video, and Video with no Audio)

How old is your cord? You may just have a bad connection.

I bough it today! And it was overpriced! It's a decent cord, thick and sturdy, but it was $7, cheapest one i could find! I could've bought one from china for $1,80 but it would take 30 days to get here...

If your soundcard driver lets you hear things from "line in" or "mic in", connect your PSP and other devices, listen to them with a pair of headphones and look for the hissing. Then try another cable and see if the hissing's there. As for popping and crackling, try to adjust your recording volume and gain

Yeah, do you have a separate jack for "Line In" and "Mic?" You might want to try Line In.

Gah...

what annoys me to no hell is that i can actually find a few videos here and there with people on youtube using this perfectly. Makes me feel like i'm doing something wrong...

It's annoying but i think i can blame the Software itself. I mean, i can actually get a decent (enough) sound if it's just sound. But as soon as i turn on Remotejoy the thing turns on me!

I just tried Line In, it "works". I actually got pretty much the same results. But o verall audio was lower for some reason... i though it could be because i was using an extension on my audio cable so i could play the PSP and use the back connector on my pc, but turns out it's not. I also used the front MIC connector on my PC and it goes the same...

Annoying, annoying, annoying...

Here, let me give an Example.

This is just Audio. My PSP, on my PC. at the menu, with the Ogre Battle XMB music playing. First audio file is the best configuration i got. Just Audio, no remotejoy. The second audio file is the exact same thing, i just turned remotejoy on.

Maybe i'll have to find some workout for this... guh

Ok, the first file definitively sounds like the volume is too high. I played with my laptop's line in, and I found it doesn't like a high recording volume (i.e. high volume in "line in" in the volume mixer) and a high volume from the source (i.e. turn your PSP's volume down).

The second file...I just don't know, never heard anything like that o_o.

EDIT: You can swap "line in" with mic, depending on which one you're using.

On the first one i gave it a +10db Mic Boost (maybe it was +20Db dunno right now) so that's probably what you're hearing as loud. My windows audio settings ARE on Max though...

I also have Accoustic Echo Reduction On, But Noise Supression is Off on the Realtek controller menu (It seemed more like it was distorting sound instead of removing the noite, but AER actually helped, i was getting some echo)

I'll give it a try by Putting my PSP Volume on 70% and 50%

Result: Not a big change, but there is a softening at 70%, already better than what i got.

Right now i'm using the Front Mic jack for this, so let me just go ahead and share this.

GAAAAAAAAAAAAH FINALLY i got a result i'm pleased with. It's not perfect, but it will do.

You see, i was planning to try a little video let's play, just for fun, Also pratice for video and audio editing and i wanted to use my PSP for it, after some more fiddling and a very competent Noise remover plugin on Sony Vegas, i reached this result:

http://www.mediafire.com/?s0ejj9jn1raoah7 <-- 7mb WMV video

Forget about the video quality, i crapped it out cause i wanted to keep the file small. But considering what a pain this has been, i would say this is a decent enough sound quality.

Now i just have to see if i can actually keep this quality consistently.

Opinions and more ideas are certainly welcome!

I haven't listened to it at all.

Turn down the volume that you're recording at. If you redline, it will get all crackly and crappy.

Download Audacity, and record through that, just some sample audio through the cord. Take a screenshot, and post it here. Alternately, just look at it, and if the blue bars are going all the way up and down, then you're recording too loudly, and need to turn down the input volume.

done and done, here is the result of that.

The Hissing is manageable now... it's not all that big while playing, and i can kill it off almost all the way in post editing

One weird thing is that all my input is going to my left channel. I can mix it with no loss to put it on both channels, but i thought that was weird....

EDIT:

I new question has arrived.

So, i have my PSP in the Mic Jack on the Back Panel of my PC, which leaves the Front Mic Jack free. I was wondering if i could use that to record commentary during gameplay with my Microphone... technically that would mean i would have to record from 2 Microphones at the same time. I never tried this so i'm not even sure how to set it up.

I have a Y splitter, so i could connect both devices on the Back Panel, but then all audio would be recorded into the one same stream, and i would rather try to have 2 separated audio streams to work with. Any ideas?
