Movies Ender's Game - The Movie

So, this is an interesting noggin i just stumbled upon...

I had no information whatsoever about this movie and book series, so i go to That Guy with the Glasses. Just checking the latest videos... and there is this one with the Nostalgia Chick about Ender's Game that is pretty recent... so, Ok, i'll watch it...

It's 12 min long if you care to take a look, and i suggest you do so

http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/vid...63-enders-game

And here is the IMDB for the movie

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1731141/

Harrison Ford... Ben Kingsley... Gavin Hood is the directo, same guy behind X-Men Origins Wolverine... and not that much else, really... mostly Tv Related stuff...

Seeing how this ties into that whole "Chicken Fillet" stuff that has been going on recently, i'm now led to believe that liking it or not, i'm going to hear about this in the coming months... and it wouldn't surprise me if we all we're hearing about this soon enough...

So, this is interesting... something i wasn't aware of... But i'm not 100% sure to what make of it, so i'm looking to bounce back some thoughts on this one...

Interesting. I liked the book a lot, though as for the sequels, I preferred the Shadow books to the Xenocide books.

It's also one of those awkward things were I like the book, but then find out later that the author is kind of a jerk.

But I'm babbling. The book is good, and could potentially make a very good movie. All depends on how much time they spend on certain aspects of the story. The Null-G chamber is cool, but those scenes aren't the most important bits. Really, the more important bits are Ender's development as a leader (which is demonstrated in the Null G chamber later) and some of the more disturbing scenes showing his ruthlessness and psychological issues.

Also, I've got the distinct feeling that they may end up changing the Locke/Demosthenes plot quite a bit, if they give it any screen-time at all. Considering the way the Internet developed since the book was written, it may be a bit weird for modern audiences to see Trolls taking over the worldEnder's brother rising to power because of his message board persona arguing about politics, if that one XKCD comic is any indication.

How in the world does this tie into "Chicken Fillet" stuff?

Is it because Orson Scott Card is homophobic?

What's funny about that is Ender's Game is one of the most homoerotic novels I've read.

Basic plot is like this:

It's the future. Earth has been beset by two Invasions from an alien species called the Formics (commonly called "Buggers" due to their insect-like nature, and as a slur) The First Invasion was an extremely sudden strike at Earth itself, and the Second Invasion was a set of gratuitious space battles near Earth. They were driven off in the Second Invasion, but they're still out there.

There's this military training program called Battle School in space where children can, if they're deemed physically and psychologically proper for it, be trained (for years and years away from their family and a normal life) to be part of the Earth's military (it's one of those Zero-Requiem-style things where Earth's nations are united in hatred against a common foe, but with nowhere near Geass's level of optimism for what will happen after the threat is dead), and prepare for an inevitable Third Invasion from the Formics.

Ender Wiggin is a Third. That is, he's the third child of his parents, in a time when Earth basically has a mandatory family size limit of two children, due to overpopulation. Obviously, life has not been easy for him because of that. The story begins with Ender being told that he's a proper candidate for Battle School (whereas his sister was determined to be too much of a bleeding heart, and his brother a bit too much of a violent psychopath (Ender's just enough of a psychopath).)

Now, that's the story as one knows it at its outset. It's one of those stories where a fair bit of stuff gets plot-twisted by the end.

I'm postmodern as fuck- it's the only conclusion. What's the points of stars 1-4?

Man this story sounds dumb- you don't need to train dudes for years and years, you give them like a month teaching them how to savour the look in a dying mans eye and to follow your every order, give them a rifle let them go nuts.
Has full metal jacket taught us nothing.

If I remember correctly, it was training most of those children to be commanders, generals, and other higher ups as opposed to just plain ol' infantry and other shootymen. I don't think Infantry was even a concern seeing as how it was spaaaaaaace.

Well, maybe not most. Command School is like, extra stuff. But yeah. But otherwise, Bard, you know Smarty wasn't serious, right?

I mean, taking Fullmetal Jacket as a model?
