I'm not 100% on that, Japan has neutral pronouns that are hard to translate. Possible the captains gender was left ambiguous.

You know that whole thing about blank zanpakuto and how recruits basically imprint on them brings up all sorts of questions. Though it does kind of explain Ichigo's permanent shikai state in that he straight created his sword himself which we found out is unusual.

Also, this totally makes my theory that Kenpachi just found a zanpakuto laying around and picked it up plausible (or maybe he killed its owner). He is just bad ass enough to pull something like that off.

Man way too much subtlety in this fight between supposed maniacs. I'm pretty sure she's killing him and then reviving him repeated in this fight. It definitely happened at least once.

honestly I thought he just got one of those "vision of your own death" things thats common in anime. but your idea is much more interesting so I hope you are right

Considering that Unohana is pretty much the 2nd best healer ever, bringing people from the brink of death seems feasible to her.

Also, Kubo pretty much admiting that Zaraki has Super Saiyan Syndrome
