I think it was for space reasons. Mabye she plans to grapple BB while she skewers him with the 4 swords she has out.

Also, the early episodes clearly show that Hadoken is a fire-based spell:

BM: Do you know what happens to a Giant when it's blasted with a fireball? (006-next episode BM casts Hadoken)

RM's Master Plan: BM zaps Garland with a super fireball (111)

Thief: You're supposed to open this attack with a massive fireball spell, yet you're in the very back. (112-last panel clearly shows BM starting to cast Hadoken)

WM: Black Mage, just cast a big, horrible, destructive fireball spell so we can get out of here. (126)

The textual evidence clearly shows that Hadoken is simply a giant fireball. Thus it is a fire-based spell, Q.E.D.

Best Quotes:
(001-100) BM: I AM THE BLACK MAGE! I CAST THE SPELLS THAT MAKES THE PEOPLES FALL DOWN!
(101-200) BM: Oh sweet zombie Jesus on a pogo stick! We're screwed.
(201-300) RM: They may be monsters, but they're SEA monsters. What're gonna do? Flop on deck and suffocate at us threateningly?

Many of your quotations are from people who have never studied dark magic, although the Black Mage line qualifies.

An earlier post concerning whether Hadoken was fire elemental:

Hmm...Black Mage seems to think that Kary's comment of not having killed anyone for three minutes being responsible for her irritability is perfectly reasonable. Rather disturbing character, him.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to drill holes in the heads of small, live, furry animals. Don't wait up.

Kary seems to contradict herself. At first, she's annoyed because she has yet to satisfy her bloodlust, but, then at the end, she says, "Why do they come to me to die?"
Unless it is the 'thrill of the hunt' that she enjoys, she should be thinking, "Ohhhh! I don't have to try very hard to kill this one. Happy Day!"
.... maybe she just wants to have her cake and eat it too, but most likely I'm looking way too deep into this episode.

While your theory does have some merit, I will respond by saying how many different ways are there to make fire? Atomic detonations from hadoken being one of them. If you think about it you can make fire from a chunk of ice and the suns rays. It just takes patience.

Using another...and more final fantasy related....example I will go to ff7. Bahamut Zero would lob a huge blast of energy from outer space, very similar to hadoken. However what element is this based off? NONE it is non-elemental. Same can be said with bahamut and neo-bahamut, tho while thier attacks LOOKED fire based, they were in fact nonelemental and it even stated this in the description of the attack.

Same thing can be said using bahamut from ff9 and ff10. IMHO 7 is the better (and more played) of those 3 so I preferred to use that example.

Come to think of it, every ff game I can think of has had bahamut being non-elemental (someone post if this is in error I am curious now)

So while you can say it is fire based by it's name only, I say is fast food really fast? Are dr. pepper and mr pibb 2 totally different things? It is a name nothing more. Would you rather hadoken be described as a powerful high speed projectile that causes insane amounts of damage to whatever it hits? NO......so it is a fireball for short. Does not mean it is fire element.

It's a nuke spell, lets just leave it at that. Btw, didn't someone mention that in the FF1 game, Kary could be hurt by fire spells (I don't know for sure if this is true because I just got FF Origins last week and haven't had much time to play it)?

The US release of Final Fantasy has many coding errors that are corrected in Final Fantasy Origins. One of the more well known and prominent was that elemental weapons and armors grant no bonuses or penalties (i.e. fire armor was no better than mythral armor against fire attacks, fire swords did no extra damage against fire creatures, etc). Note that in the ORIGINAL Final Fantasy (Japanese release) these errors didn't appear - so something went wrong during the translation to the NES.
