A cancer.

A debilitating disease that becomes more and more advanced each time one of these things appears. I truly believe that each time one of these is posted, a puppy dies.

Seriously though, they were getting pretty abrasive on the eyes, not to mention the funny bone.

This is sort of why I don't really see the point in officializing the recent comic thread discussions. It just seems natural that they're made by the fans to discuss freely with other fans. If I were in Brian's shoes, I wouldn't even so much as glance at them. That way, fanfiction wouldn't poke at your nerves. It's not like there's much to look at in there, anyway.

Unfortunately they are an integral part to the comic process. What author would ignore the main discussion for their most recent work? There have been countless times where questions have been asked and would have gone entirely unanswered were it not for Brian reading those threads.

They are officialized because thef ans couldn't quit being retarded about being the first one to post the thread. It was amusing at first, then it became some sort of god damn competition, then it died down for a while, then flared back up. When things start to annoy myself or Brian or any other mods really, then changes are made.

This is really unfair Shiney. What about real fanfics and not smiley-fics? Per say some talented writer out there has a piece of fan-fiction and wants to post it here. Dose he have to put it in the fanfic sticky next to:

Nobody said anything about lumping in people's terrible text-only fanfic with their terrible smiley skits, or whatever the hell these things are because they're not so much fanfiction as "O hay a BM smiley TIME FOR LAME". The textual stuff still goes in Arts & Crafts like it always has.

No, skits with the smilies are bad. I think you can still say "Fighter's probably going to get a notepad and doodle on it trying to remember what Dr. Swordopolis said," you just can't do so by way of smilie skit.

Of course, I'm not a doctor...

You're misinterpreting the whole thing. No more stupid skits at ALL in these threads. That includes ones without the smilies. There is a difference between the stupid skits and actual deliberation into what could happen next. Conversation about possibilities is fine, skits are not.

I think these rules are largely hurting what makes the most recent episode threads somewhat entertaining to read. Before Kurosen was creating the threads they used to get very off topic and feature lots of amusing (not really funny, as has been pointed out the quality tends to be low) speculation and possibilities. A lot of the creative spirit was sort of sucked out of those threads. Since Kurosen started they've become sort of focused and much less silly.

I'm not saying that there's something wrong with you making a few rules, but it is important that the threads remain for the fans and for the most part uncontrolled by the author. When you limit fan created content you do get rid of a lot of medicore stuff, but you also reduce the possibility of discovering good fan content. By allowing a fan community function independently of the main work there is a chance that something of value could occur (wouldn't you agree that 8BT is in many ways a fan work drawing from a broad base of inspiration?).

Anyway, I just think you have to consider that there is a downside to passing these sort of rules and in general making the message board more controlled. Sorry if it sounds weird, but I feel that the creativity of the fans has enough value to warrant being protected.
