Class System/GP/Item Shop
Well, essentially what the title says. I've been to forums, Final Fantasy based and otherwise, that have these neat little systems where you get Gil, GP or Gold for every post (save for some sub forums, like ones made for spam) and these funds can go towards buying purely superficial items and weapons to decorate the space under your avatar.
Also, the class system, where you can choose which job your character follows. I can think of no place better suited then this forum for 8-Bit. You know, pick a fighter class, get a little 8-bit fighter icon under your avatar/in your profile, same goes for Black Mage, Thief, Ninja, White Mage, Monk, etc. I'd be entirely willing to get the sprites and images required together if this idea was accepted and implimented.

Burn.

That would cause post spamming, and start forming cliques baised on "Oh I have such and such" if you want my opinion. And the mods hate that.

Well, it would be an ample way to figure out which people are total twits and should be warned/banned for being of the mindset that spamming is ok for even the slightest of reasons.
I mean, it's worked on other forums, and I've yet to see any cliques. Honestly, if someone were to do that over something so trivial and harmless, I wouldn't want to know them anyways. ._. *edit* Or, how about instead of just posting giving you gil, you get gil depending on how large the post is. You know, like you only get gil if said post is over so many words, and then the base line amount is added to for however many words over the minimal requirement. Or, instead of gil from posts, it could be a daily/weekly amount. Or instead of gil for the posting thing, it could be EXP. I mean, hell, alot of people use the idea that post # = experience on the board, so why not make it transfer to the actual EXP value, and do a level system. Honestly, other then the very slim 'clique' problem and a bit of work, I can't see why this wouldn't be an issue. I think it'd be a nice addition to a forum that seems like it would be the perfect fit for.

It's been emphasized many times that anything involving post count is generally irrelevant. Giving rewards for such things only serve as an ego stroking to people who are better members of the forum than usual.
Please, read around this forum itself for the larger topic concerning post count(Dead topic Repository now). It's a whore mechanism and such as it is, this is something of work that can at most only serve to stroke one's ego for posting a lot on an online sprite comic forum. It's been a problem before and it seems pointless to try it again.

Exactly. We don't need trinkets to measure "Forum Dick" as it's been called. In fact, we're trying to avoid the train of thought that more posts equals more perks. All posters are the same, the Mods are the ones who keep order.

...you do realize the point of this little program...is meant to just be for fun, right? And 'stroking one's ego' really is completely irrevant to anything at all. While the whole 'post count to EXP' thing was meant in a more general sense, it was also a mere footnote in the idea I was presenting.
There was still the suggestion of gil per day. Really, I just felt such things as Fighter/Thief class icons would add more to the feel of the comic and make the forum reflect thus and have it be a bit more personalized to each member. But input noted, none the less. I think you two are taking this suggesting way too seriously and personally. Honestly, it's a harmless little idea. Trinkets are meant to just be toys. I've honestly never met anyone that's gone 'HAH! MY Diamond Shield is way more awesome then your Bronze Shield! Therefore, due to this totally superficial item I purchased, I'm better then you!" Really, if you've met people like this...then...uh...well, I don't want to go where you hang out.

Sadly, not everyone gets it, and there are lots of people around that would abuse it.

Well, like I said, if the post count thing is such a big deal, then the daily gil hand out would make more sense. Forget the 'exp' thing.
If people are going to do the whole 'I've got a Vorpal sword! Noob!' thing...erm..well, I'd just ignore them. Really, the biggest thing I think would be cool is th 'class' or 'job' thing. The other stuff, I just threw in there for the mods to mull over and discuss amongst themselves. In the end, I suppose it's up to them, and they'd know best what they'd like, how much work they'd be willing to do and what would and wouldn't happen as far as members behaviour is concerned.

If you set your title back to default, you'll see you already have something like that.
But for what you're thinking of, I suggest you use the search feature to find threads about the reputation system. It's not what it used to be. Anyways, what you propose sounds very much like the infamous Gaia system. I would suggest looking at a few of our threads about Gaia to see how we feel about that.

I hate to gang up on you like this, Random Ninja, but I'd hate it more if you thought Mes and Flare were alone or unfounded in their opinions.
We had a "just for fun" system before. It was called rep. Now-a-days, only the mods can change your rep, but a while back, anyone was free to give or take rep from anyone else. While this worked ok for a while, it lead to problems. There were threads about Rep rank, deals where folks would inflate eachother's rep, and downright "Gimme rep" whoring. Also, nega-rep was seen as a legitimate way of flaming by some people, with the justification "If it's there, I should be able to use it." So, the mods got rid of it, and it cut down the drama quite a bit. There very well could be "HAH! MY Diamond Shield is way more awesome then your Bronze Shield!" posts, or even threads about how Diamond Shield people are great. Or, posters might dismiss someone's opinion because "He's just a Bronze Shield." Really, look at the horrors of places with these kinds of systems. We don't want to be the Newgrounds forum or Gaia. I don't know of any forum with an Experience system that is as well-run and generally nice to frequent as NPF. But then, I don't know of any forum as nice as NPF. Also, this forum isn't just about 8-bit Theater. It's about all of Brian's projects. There are, surpisingly, people here who don't read 8-bit. So, it's not like this forum needs more 8-bit Theater-y-ness than it already has on the various buttons. I'm not trying to hurt your feelings here or "put you in your place," it's just that, yeah, we do take these kinds or thing seriously because we don't want anything bad to happen to the beloved forum. While I trust the Mods wouldn't implement something like this for the reasons expounded above (and perhaps for reasons of their own, as they are mysterious creatures), it's important to explain these things so that future members can see why the forum is as it is and that the members care about the forum. Please, don't let this hurt your feelings. That's far from my intent and, if I may be indulged in a bit of postulation, it isn't Mes or Flare's intent either. EDIT: Add Skyshot to every list including Mesden and Flarecobra. Darn Theif/Cleric... I'm not sure if addressing him like that is ironic or not.
